Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.3.15

Hi Folks !

So, for christmas, i received a tapo C200 v. 3.20 security camera to have a look on my cats. As i like to keep ma data at home, i updated the firmware to 1.3.15, created the account, added a local one with the app and then, added the camera to my homeassistant with the TP-Link integration, and then, i blocked the internet access for this device. Having a look of what happen when i get home would be enough by taking the sd card out.

Well, as soon as i've block internet access to the camera, it started to get a weird behaviour. It provides an orange light, doesn't track me when i'm walking, then a red light blink, reboot, make the calibration at boot (turn left, right, up, down). Then, works for some minutes and do it again.

So, i gave internet access to the camera, and now, everything works. I've checked a bit aroung the web and found that someone, with tapo 200  have the same issues. https://github.com/JurajNyiri/HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control/discussions/662 . So, there was a link to here https://community.tp-link.com/en/smart-home/forum/topic/666194.

So, i've disconnected the camera and tried to pan tilt with the official app, no problem, i used home assistant, no problem too. But after a few minutes, without touching it, it just reboot the way i described.

So, i understood that will be fixed with the firmware update 1.4.2 (correct me if i'm wrong), but when i'm looking at tp-link webpage of my version, i don't see any "firmware version note".

So, what can i do to resolve this problem and keep my camera offline ? :-)

Regards

Hi,
1. On the TP-Link official website, you can search for Tapo C200, go to its Support page, select the hardware version(V3 or 3.2), and then go to the Firmware Release Notes page.

2. The firmware of the Tapo C200 is different from the Tapo C210. The problem reported here is also different from the forum ID 666194. To locate the issue, please confirm the following information.
  1) When you add the camera to your home assistant, have you used the TP-Link account(email and password used to log in to the Tapo app) or the camera account on the Tapo app > camera's Device Settings > Advanced Settings page?

  2) Please disconnect the camera from your home assistant, try to block its internet connection, and check if it will work.

  3) Have you stored the camera video recordings on the SD card inserted into the camera?

Best Regards

@Solla-topee

Thanks for your answer ! :-)

TLDR

I tried to connect with the camera's account via camera's device setting > Advanced setting > Account, i tried to connect via the TP-Link account (my mail + password) with local account activated. I was only able to connect with the local account. I've removed the camera from home assistant and shutdown home assistant to use only tapo app. On each test where i could access to the camera, it always ended by perpetual reboot.

Detailed process

Note

During the process, a SD card of 64 GB was in to store the local videos. And i did not reset the tapo camera, neither the app. I just moved the toggles to get at the start point (see "what i did on tapo app").

1) TP-Link Local account

Result :

What I did on tapo app

  1. Go to me > Tapo Lab > Tierce compatibility > Activate
  2. Go to Camera’s device setting > Advanced Settings > Camera account > Set the account credentials

What I did on Home assistant
1. Give access to internet to the camera

2. Add integration from TP-Link, selected Tapo

3. I let the hostname/ip adress to let the integration search

4. It founds my camera at 192.168.0.160 (accurate), so I validate

5. Check the box “Enable camera live view”

6. Use my local credentials from Tapo App > Camera’s device setting > Advanced setting

7. Attribute it to bedroom

8. Block the internet access to the camera from the router

Result : After 1 minute, it has rebooted

2) Test with TP-Link account with local deactivated

What I did on tapo app
1. Go to me > Tapo Lab > Tierce compatibility > Activate

2. Go to Camera’s device setting > Advanced Settings > Camera account > deactivate the local account

What I did on Home assistant
1. Give access to internet to the camera

2. Add integration from TP-Link, selected Tapo

3. I let the hostname/ip adress to let the integration search

4. It founds my camera at 192.168.0.160 (accurate), so I validate

5. Check the box “Enable camera live view”

6. Use my TP-Link credentials (mail address and password)

Result : Could not connect. I had this error message : Unable to access the camera stream, verify that you have set up the camera account: [Errno 1094995529] Invalid data found when processing input

3) Test with TP-Link account with activated

What I did on tapo app
1. Go to me > Tapo Lab > Tierce compatibility > Activate

2. Go to Camera’s device setting > Advanced Settings > Camera account > deactivate the local account

What I did on Home assistant
1. Give access to internet to the camera

2. Add integration from TP-Link, selected Tapo

3. I let the hostname/ip adress to let the integration search

4. It founds my camera at 192.168.0.160 (accurate), so I validate

5. Check the box “Enable camera live view”

6. Use my TP-Link credentials (mail address and password)

Result : Can’t connect, return this error : “Camera stream authentication failed”, but I’ve been able to connect to it with the “local” account

Remove from home assistant and block internet access

1. I removed my camera from home assistant
2. I shutdowned home assistant to be sure.
3. I blocked the internet access from my router

Result : the camera rebooted after 10 minutes

EDIT : I let this configuration run for 4 hours. In the end, it reboots every minutes too, but when i gave access to internet again, it runs normally.

Are there some other tests i should do ?

Best regards,

Mufasa

Hi,
Thank you for your detailed description. After disconnecting the camera from your home assistant, please remove the SD card from the camera, then check if the camera will work after blocking its internet connection.
Best Regards
