I have a feature request to enhance the flexibility of S220.

Currently, the S220 is “hardcoded” with the left button physically linked to output A and the right button to output B. While this basic functionality works, it limits potential use cases.

I would like to propose a feature where the physical buttons and outputs are decoupled in the app interface. Ideally, each button could be represented independently in the app, as well as each output, similar to the configuration of smart plugs.

This would allow users to program the buttons for more customizable functions. For example, one button could alternate the “on” state between outputs (to create a staircase switch mode), while the other button could control a different smart device, such as a smart plug. (In another words I want to control what happens when I press a button - now the only option is to trigger the built in switch/relay)

The default setting could maintain the current behavior where the left button triggers output/relay A and the right button triggers output/relay B, but having this as an adjustable configuration would greatly expand the device’s versatility.

Two output buttons of the Tapo S220 switch have separate device cards within the app for separate control.

If you want to use either button as a purely physical trigger to control other tapo smart devices, you can do so by creating an automation. In this case, the wire corresponding to this button doesn't have to wire to a specific light fixture, you can just cap it with a wire nut.

@Wayne-TP of course that can be done, but its not as flexible as my proposal, where you can use buttons in variuos ways (like double click, long press, or alternate between left and right relay etc). Now the button to relay connection is hardcoded, but its not phisically impossible (we can as of today add a customizable delay between button press and relay actuatuion so they are not hardwired, just "haedcoded" in the firmware :)

Is there any existing product you saw that inspired you to come up with this idea?

@Wayne-TP no, the idea came from my specific use-case. The switch is fine for its basic intended use and probably it will work just fine as it is for most people.

For now I have added Tapo Smart S200D on the wall to do the smart tasks as I can't replace the current "staircase" switch with S220.
