Tapo D230S1 and Google Home Speakers
I'm considering replacing a Google/Nest doorbell with a Tapo D230S1. I'm not clear about the compatibility with my current equipment. Specifically when the doorbell is pressed, will it notify through Google Home smart speakers and displays?
My current set-up is: Google Nest Doorbell - Google Home Speaker - Nest Aware. With that I'm notified through the speakers when someone presses the doorbell, plus the recordings are stored via the Nest aware service. I'm looking to add an external camera with Pan and Tilt. Tapo has one, but that isn't compatible with Google Home [on the phone] nor Nest aware storage plan.
That means that I need to take out a Tapo subscription for a camera. I'm only wanting to have one subscription for security recordings. The questions then are:
- If I replace the Google Doorbell with a Tapo Doorbell, can the one Tapo subscription cover both [and future] camera?
- Can a Tapo doorbell notify button presses through google home speakers?
- Can the Tapo doorbell video be viewed through the Google Home phone app? The Tapo external camera cannot, this is a real disapointment.

There are different Tapo Care plans for a different number of cameras. Find more details here: Get to Know TP-Link Tapo Care
Tapo doorbell supports voice notifications on Google Home (through Assistant speakers and displays), doorbell pressed notification is included.
The live stream cannot be viewed on Google Home App or displays. However, there is an indirect way to display the live feed on the Google Display when someone rings the doorbell, which is by creating a routine. Hello
Streaming automatically Tapo doorbell D230S1 is possible through google automates actions
I just tested it.
Simply create an automatied action in google home app.
Tap automation icon (or automated actions) in the bottom bar... don't know the real name as i'm in french version.
Tap on "+ Add".
Choose "home" or "personnal" (depending on who you want to grant automation modifications) and Tap "Next".
Tap "Add trigger".
Tap "When a device do somerhing" (may be the Last option)
Then, scroll to the room the doorbell is assigned to, and tap on your doorbell device.
Then activate the radio buttons for the action "doorbell is ringing"
If you want to add conditions (date/time), défine conditions by tapping "hours dans days"...
Tap "Add trigger" (if greyed, ensure you have well activated the radio buttons on "doorbell is ringing")
Then, tap "Add action", scroll down to "use custom command", and just as you would ask after "ok google", write in the field : "Show me [doorbell name] on [google screen name]"
If you want to show it on multiple screens, simple add "and show me [doorbell name] on [other google screen name]"
Tap "OK" then "Save".
Test by pressing doorbell button.. it should work (it works perfectly for me on 2 nest hubs)
Hope it will help
Regards
PS : sorry for my approx translation and english 😝 (i'm using the french version of home app)

Thank you for sharing! Setting up a routine is indeed a way to indirectly display the live feed on the Google Display device when the doorbell is pressed/ringing.
