C425 camera - night mode spotlights
Hi there
I have a Tapo C425 camera. If I have night mode set to colour mode every time I open the camera in the app the lights turn on. If I put it into infrared mode this doesn't happen but then the lights won't turn on if there is motion detected.
Will the C425 get smart mode? Ideally I want the lights to come on when there is motion detected but I don't want the lights to come on every time I open the camera on the app.
thanks!

@Wayne-TP Please add this feature in the future Firmware. An option to turn on spot light when motion is detected. Thank you.

Hi @Jonesy31 and @Wayne-TP
I just installed the same Tapo C425 cameras and you actually can activate the lamp when motion is detected. Just set the alarm to 'Lamp' instead of sound, which triggers the lights to go on.
One thing that annoys me though is that the lamps will then flash (on/off/on/off) for the duration you have programmed.
Would be great if this can be set to static lamp on/off for the duration of the alarm when motion is detected! Might be an easier fix than creating a fully new feature.

That will be a very useful update!

An additional static light mode would be great if motion is detected!
Was looking for it and know now, unfortunately there is none. Please implement this in a soon update. Thanks.

Vote for this thread if you want the Tapo C425's night mode to support the Smart Mode: automatically switches from black&white images to color when an event is detected.

If you try Auto instead of day/night, you might be able to get it working. I have a similar problem but I can't use Auto because the lighting in the cameras view is so bright that the camera never enters Night mode to automatically control the spotlight, so I have to permanently have it in Night mode regardless of time of day or light levels.
If I don't use night mode, you can barely see anything so it would be great if @Wayne-TP could suggest adding a time & day schedule option similar to the smart plugs, to set switching between day and night mode manually.
Best way to do it --- Have a "Manual" modes screen, chosen by clicking modes menu on camera live view, choose manual, get a pop up which shows a popup to set start and end option for day and night modes. Possibly having a days of the week bar across the bottom. See attached photo from smart plug schedule screen.

I recommend starting a separate thread for this feature request, such as "support schedule for camera night/day mode", "automation: make camera day/night mode available as an action skill".
