SOLVED: stuck on 'connecting to smart plug'?

edit: manually connected to smart plug, then retried set up, all ok now
Hi, i am trying to add a new smart plug mini (slim kp105) to kasa app but i cannot do so.
I confirm that the light is flashing orange and green,
My phone states that the Kasa app is asking permission to connect to smart plug device, i say yes. (phone shows connect to plug under wifi settings).
app is then goes on 'Connecting to smart plug'.
Then 'Unable to connect to your smart plug wifi' appears.
I have tried restarting plug and app but with no luck , any ideas?
My phone is a Pixel 6 Pro on andriod 12.
