Model: HS210
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I have tried installing two HS210 switches to replace two "dumb" 3-way switches controlling the same ceiling light. As per the subject the HS210's start rapidly switching on and off as soon as power is applied on the circuit breaker.

I have read in another thread that this may indicate contact issues with the neutral wire, but I've double checked them and all contacts seem firmly connected.

I understand certain types of 3-way switch circuit wiring may be incompatible with smart switches and may require a circuit change; is this the case here?

Would anyone have any suggestion for me to troubleshoot/fix this?

Below is the wiring on my old 3-way switches. I have labeled the wires as instructed in the HS210 install manual.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Guillaume

@Guillaume_D You have the white traveler labeled as neutral. The neutral should be in the box with a wire nut holding them together.

@Guillaume_D Yes connected to the switch is 2 travelers(the brass screws) and 1 common(the black screw). you do not need both switches, connect the one switch that has the neutral in the box. Add the white wire from the HS210 to the group of neutrals.

@B.Will Yes, in the switch box closer to the light, there was a white wire already connected to the switch. I labeled it as neutral because of the colour. There is also a separate bundle of white wires (it doesn't seem to be connected to the white "traveler" wire.

That being said, there was no bundle of white wires in the switch box closer to the circuit breaker, only one single white wire connected to the existing 3-way switch.

Does it mean this white wire that was connected to both existing 3-way switches was in fact not neutral, but a traveler wire instead?

Thanks for your help, @B.Will .
