Tapo C310 motion detection sensitivity and email notifications
Tapo C310 motion detection sensitivity and email notifications
Hello,
I bought Tapo C310 three weeks ago but i installed it in my garden yesterday and i am shocked... the motion detects every insect flyby or smallest dust.
Before buying the camera i read a review where someone wrote that this camera supports email notifications. And it DOES NOT? REALLY? In 2021?
Now i am super angry because i bought it three weeks ago so i can not return it. So now i have a totally useless camera that i bought for about 60$ because i thought that tp-link is a high quality brand. No smart image analysis in detection process, no email notifications. Gosh... so disappointed. I will highly disrecommend this hardware to anyone i know...

@blackMasoon Hello,
Tapo camera support motion detection and notifications on the phone, but it does not have Email Notification feature. This feature has not been advertised officially, we are sorry to hear that about the possible misleading information in the comment.
Motion detection will be triggered when it detects a movement and also the change of light, you could lower its Sensitivity or adjust Detection Zone on Motion Detection settings see if that helps: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2622/
Thank you for your feedback on the motion detection sensitivity, we will forward your feedback to related team for optimization.

@Solla-topee I set the sensitivity to lowest and turned almost all alerts types off besides one - border crossing to which i draw a really short line.
Last night due to rain fall the camera was recording events (crossing border by rain drops )from 0:00 to around 4:00 AM every minute and that kind of behavior used up my whole AGM battery.
I woke up seeing that camera is offline and i couldn't see what happend because there is no cloud and no sending notifications with picture via email. Is there any way i can send you this camera and have my money back?
P.S. Objects like insects or raindrops are light speed faster than a moving human? Are tapo engineers so weak that they cannot diversify these two totally different classes of objects?

Thank you for your detailed feedback, our seniors are still trying to optimize the motion detection feature.
- may I have some video clips of the rain & insects that triggered the detection.
- Tapo APP-- tap ' envelop' icon to go to Message center, and please share with us a photo of the messages when the rain/ insects triggered the motion.
- may I have a photo of your Activity Zone settings and also the Motion Detection settings?
To better assist with your case, we will have a specialist to follow up your case and you could send the details to via email, please check your mailbox later, and let us know if the issue is resolved. Thank you!

I also have the C310 camera and same problems. At night time all flying insects and rain drops triggers notification.
Motion sensitivity is set to lowest value.
Do you want video clips? Where can I send them?
I have also some Reolink wifi outdoor cameras and they do not trigger alerts from insects or rain drops

I have the very same issue and the advice from the Customer support team was to turn off the notifications. That pretty much defeats the pupose of having the camera. Have sent multiple videos as requested and they just keep asking for me videos. They're all the same, rain, shadows, shrubs in the garden all set it off. I had a cheap thing from Kogan that was half he price but had the capacity do distinguish Humans from trees and was significantly better in its notifications. It had some power issues which is why it was replaced......... but what a waste of time and money the C310 has been

@Solla-topee I have the exact same issue as the other posters here. I have x3 C310 cameras installed today, and I enabled Motion Detection for them all and it started raining now and turned to night and both the rain and/or insects are triggering notifications every few seconds.
I then disabled Motion Detection and enabled Area Intrusion detection thinking that would be more tailored towards human beings, as the feature description says: "Set an acitivty and receive a notification when a PERSON enters the zone"... well there's no difference between Motion and Area Intrusion it seems and the same rain/insects trigger notifications.
All settings were on LOW.
I have completely disabled any detection until TP-LINK push a firmware update addressing this issue. Seems like a stock standard feature that shoudl be working with a camera, especially if you advertise about it.
Thoughts?
Cheers
Mark

@Solla-topee Thank you for the offer of looking at this for me. Your customer service team have been looking at if for the past 4 weeks and we're no further advanced. It has had a custom firmware update sent to me that didn't upload, and now the camera is all but unusable. The images freeze and the tome clock freezes for up,t o 2 minutes. The images are now glitch and the notifications are every 60 seconds which is beyond insane. So much so that i've had to disable all notifications? i've sent videos, screens shots and offers to allow your customer service team to long in to the camera themselves. So unless you can work a miracle, the only solution would be to send me a replacement that i can then return and buy a brand that actually works.

@Solla-topee Thank you for my prompt reply. My device is only 6 weeks old. it's behaved like this since day 1. And to add insult to injury, I had paid to have electricity run to accomodate the camera. So in short, it hasn't worked correctly without giving false alerts since the day it was installed. I purchase a TP Link camera as I've had TP Link Products for years and they've proven incredibly reliable... up until now
