C310 Detection and activity zones
C310 Detection and activity zones
Hi,
I have 4 C310 but there are zones where I don't want to detect movement so I correctly set the red activity zones, problem is that the camera seems to completely ignore that. I tried to set the activity zone in each camera and reboot, increase and decrease the montion sense but it's not working.
It has to be a bug because it happens in all the 4 c310. I would appreciate some help.
Thank you 👍

I have already updated the device with the new firmware and the new improvements worked just fine. Thank you very much.
One more suggestion: improve sensibility of the motion detection. Very often the device alarm trigger with small objects detection (ex: spiders, birds, etc).
Once again, thank you for the support.
Kind Regards.

Hello everyone,
Thank you for the feedback for camera Activity Zone the alerts. Tapo camera uses pixelation difference to detect the motion, this means the camera's built-in motion sensor will be alert when it captures slight movement as it compares pixel differences in the image. The false alerts can be reduced as much as possible but may not be 100% avoided.
Here is an FAQ which offers some tips to reduce unwanted detection activities, please give it a try:
How to reduce motion detections from rain, snow or insects
-
Confirm Tapo camera firmware and Tapo APP are both up to date
-
Adjust Activity Zone and exclude some areas listed below:
Please exclude the area where the activities may be deemed as small movements like trees, bushes, leaves waving in the wind; light changes like sunset or sunrise, car light of passing vehicles, tree shadow, reflections ; public areas like busy streets, sidewalk etc.
-
Set Camera Sensitivity to Lower level
-
Try Not to point camera to the busy public areas like busy streets, sidewalk etc.
-
Turn on AI Detection (Person Detection) and deactivate other Motion Detection settings if the camera supports AI Detection
Note: so far Person Detection uses full detection zone, Detection Zone is only for Motion Detections
Aside from this, customizing the time of notifications might be an option at that moment you do not want the alerts sent to the phone.
If the issue persists with the above steps, you could share a video clip that trigger the motion, and the video clips will be shared with our team for optimization with this feature.
Please provide case details and email to < support.forum@tp-link.com> with title' [ Forum ID 242022] + Model + Description '
- the video clip showing the event might not align with your settings (use Tapo APP to manually record video of that period)
- photo of motion detection settings including Activity Zone & Sensitivity
- Tapo APP version
- Model of Camera its hardware firmware version
Thank you.
Note: this post will be marked as' Solution' temporarily for users to see the information in full and provide additional feedback, thanks!

The Activity zone issue has been optimized on Tapo C310 V1 firmware 1.0.14 , may I know the hardware & firmware of your tapo camera?
Can you share with us a photo of the Activity zone and also the motion detection settings, and also a video clip shows the issue ( you may click my profile to send a private message for your privacy ) ?

I have two Tapo C310
hardware 1.0
firmware 1.0.14
and one Tapo C210
hardware 1.0
firmware 1.1.8
None of my cameras take any notice of activity zones. They just carry on notifying and recording for litterally every single shadow movement on the screen. Even if its just one tiny zone where nothing EVER moves, it still records literally EVERYYTHHIIIIINNNNNGGGGGGGGG
its almost just a waste of my time to even have these cameras running. no one has time to go through 8 hours of footage a day because the cameras think the wind blowing a leaf around is an intruder.

@Eko777 Hello,
The change of light in the Activity zone will also trigger a motion Detection, you could lower the motion detection sensitivity.
We would like to follow up your case via email with forum ID, can you share some video clip in email, thank you.
