I can't find any information about how Tapo is different from TP-Link.

The only official info I read is that Tapo is an off-shoot from TP-Link.

My question is in terms of products, why have two brands?

Example, the smart plug.

On TP-Link side there's the HS100. On the Tapo side there's the P100.

Wouldn't this be confusing for customers?

My only guess is that TP-Link will migrate their smart home products under Tapo? surprise

I think tapo was an acquistion, which usually makes integration a problem.  More worrying is that it would be the end of kasa by making them orphans replaced by tapo...  it would be nice to hear from TP Link about their strategy.

@MikeP

Good day.

Sorry for the delay.

Kasa would not be replaced by Tapo and till now, there is also no intention to integrate them together.

So For fairly a long time, they could still be independent to each other;

The huge difference might be that they target to different markets, especially European countries;

Thank you very much.

2020 thread, now into 2022 - I was wondering what's changed regarding this?

Will TP-Link Kasa and TP-Link Tapo products be combined into one of the two apps?

What's the best brand to choose to be future proof?

I'm in the UK.

I was wondering, what what the reason to have separate apps? - Surly it puts customers off buying a whole range of branded products, having to install a new app (often not having the storage space to do so on their smartphones).

Are there advantages using one of the two apps / product brands, when used with a TP-Link router?
