Cameras like these usually have FTP or SMTP, so you can upload the data to a server of your own choice.

This one has not.

Your data is uploaded to tp-link's servers, seemingly placed in China.

This means that:

  • you have no control of your data,
  • you do not know what the security level is, and
  • you do not know who has access to your data.

In order for the whole scheme to seem legit, they have you pay for it.

Cannot recommend.

@alessioz I use Agent DVR and send myself WhatsApp notifications through WappSync.com. I prefer to get the notifications in real time by WhatsApp instead of email. It reaches my phone almost instantly. + I get all the videos directly on my Whatsapp conversations.

@zoltanb Thank you for your reply. Whatsapp would be first prize for me as well. Can you elaborate on your Agent DVR setup with your Tapo/Vigi cams? Do you have a pc running Agent DVR on your network with your cams connected to it?

@karnati8 yes. I have Agent DVR on my PC which is online 24/7. I have cameras from my local network and also from 2 offices (remote access via port forwarding on router and using Tapo's Camera Account). Agent DVR is handling the email notifications when an event is trigerred, and WappSync is forwarding the email to my WhatsApp.

I wrote a post about this here.... It looks like Tapo does not allow external links. Search for google: medium How to Receive Real-Time WhatsApp Alerts from Your Security Cameras

The good news is that via WhatsApp backup, you are automatically saving the videos when motion is detected.
