First off all, yes i am mentally tech-challenged. I am not very good at this, even this seemingly simple task is way over my head without help.

 

Im currently running an ASUS ZenWifi mesh setup in my house. The primary router is an Asus Zenwifi AX XT8 and the only other access point is an Zenwifi XT9. Due to reasons i needed a ceiling-mounted access point on the opposite side of the house.

 

I got a tip on Reddit to buy TPLink Omada EAP225 (AC1350) accesspoint. This would apparently connect with the wifi in my house.

 

I have set up the TPLink Omada EAP225 (AC1350) access point today in my ceiling, and i have an ethernet cable going from the Zenwifi XT9 and straight into the TPLink Omada EAP225 (AC1350). TPLink Omada EAP225 (AC1350) is showing a green light, indicating its online atleast (?)

 

But i cannot access the AC1350. If i write in its IP address, i get a message saying its unavailable.

 

I tried installing the TPLink Omada app on my phone but i think this app is asking me to create a new wifi on the AC1350. I dont want to create a new WIFI, i want it to connect to my already existing Wifi.

 

I tried installing TPLink Tether app on my phone but this app seems to connect to the AC1350's wifi, which is not on because i cant access the AC1350 in the first place.

 

What am i doing wrong? Except for fuming right now as i just cannot get this working. (And i imagine its actually very simple)

Or has Reddit fooled me, is it not possible to use the EAP225 as an extender for the asus mesh wifi?

TPLink Omada EAP225 (AC1350) is showing a green light, indicating its online atleast

And you can use EAP225 to extend the existing WiFi network.

 

The EAP is usually plug-and-play, if you get no internet access from the EAP, please firstly confirm the main Router is working fine. Then check the points below and see if it helps:
    1. Ensure the EAP is hardwired to the router via an Ethernet LAN cable, use a standard CAT5 above cable for the connection. Usually, we can see a corresponding LED light up on the Router.
    2. Test the EAP's SSID with other wireless clients, eliminate the issue is from a specific client.
    3. Check the IP info on the wireless clients. To access the Internet, the clients need to get Default Gateway (Router) and DNS Server from your network through the EAP.
    4. Unplug the EAP, and connect a PC instead to the Router with the same Ethernet cable, check the IP info obtained on the PC and confirm it can get internet access.

If there is no internet access from this cable, please try with different Ethernet cables.
    5. Reset the EAP: with the EAP powered on, use a pin to press and hold the reset hole for about 8 seconds until the LED flashes green-red-yellow to factory default settings.
    6. Repeat step 1)-4) if you still get no Internet access from the EAP, this is a detailed FAQ for more troubleshooting tips: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/3083/
 

 

To manage the EAP, we need to use Omada APP, not Tether.

To build a same network with the existing Asus wifi, you need to create a wifi network for the EAP, and configure its SSID and password same as Asus'. After this, everying will work as expected.

Hi

 

I have checked and the ethernet cables are working as intended.

 

As stated in my initial post, i am completely useless when it comes to this and i find it very difficult to navigate.

 

I dont understand how the Omada App works fully.

I start it, and i can choose between Controller Mode or stand alone mode. I am in controller mode. Controller mode is connected to my Asus WIFI.

I have here managed somehow to add 2 different items (or accounts?) , both listed under my "Cloud Management" section. 

 

(Standalone mode does absolutely nothing, cannot find any devices)

 

One is called Home TP Link "Omada Standard v515.20.19 + the ip adress" and the icon is two rectangles on top of eachother with 3 green dots in each rectangle.

When i press this, it connects (green logo is filling up) and i get into the Dashboard. Here it shows 1 site, 0/0 gateway, 0/0 switch, 0/0 EAP, 0 clients, 0 alerts. I have added " as site here called "TP Link heima" but there is no traffic, no nothing.

 

 

The other is called TP Link Home "Omada Essentials v1.3.0" and has a cloud icon with a green bar inside. When i press this, it connects (green logo is filling up) and i get into the Dashboard. Here it shows 1 site, 0/0 gateway, 0/0 switch, 1/1 EAP, 0 clients, 0 alerts. So there is something connected here. I have been able to update the firmware on the EAP225 through here. Under devices its connected to the EAP.

Under Settings: Internett settings: "Wan Setting overridse" is off

Under settings: Wireless settings i added a SSID and called it TP Link wifi with both 2.4ghz and 5ghz enabled. Everything else default.

 

I am now able to connect to this WIFI with my devices. But i am unsure as to where i can change the wifi so that it broadcasts the ASUS wifi.

 

 

I have also tried to install the Omada Controller on my PC, but the PC cannot find the EAP225 at all? "No devices"

You had successfully managed the EAP via Omada cloud essentials, you can refer to the following page to change the SSID for the EAP:

1. Click the Omada cloud essentials, you will see the following page, click the site under Site Management:

 

2. Then you will be redirect to the EAP site, then click Settings > Wireless Settings.

 

3. Then  you will be able to change the SSID to the same as the ASUS wifi's.
