Model: Tapo T110
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.9.0 Build 230704 Rel. 154531

T110 sensor connected to an H100 hub, HW 1.0, FW 1.5.23 Build 241106 Rel. 093525. Connection is good RF wise.

Sensor used to detect a garage door opening, which causes the hub to sound an alarm. This works instantly and reliably every time

But the app (both on Android and iOS) takes an excessive time to refresh the screen icon and status. Android is slow at around ten seconds (or worse), while iOS can take up to thirty seconds or worse.

A secondary problem that only happens on iOS is that if door opening and closing happen on the same minute, they are sorted wrong in the summary event log but correctly in the expanded log view.

The event log on sensor's device page updates once re-entering or reload the page, it doesn't update automatically. When you check the event log details, a new inquiry request has been initiated so the information is updated there.

  @Wayne-TP I will follow your advice to open a feature request.

The reasoning behind this is that the range of sensors (with the glaring exception of a smoke detector!) is sufficiently wide and the quality and performance of the devices more than good enough to warrant using them to build a dashboard view of the home or small office system, allowing the user to know at a single glance that everything is normal.

This would entail the following changes:

- The summary view icon for the contact sensor is not visually indicative of its open/closed state, and the detail view is not particularly intuitive

- The refresh rate of the overall "All devices" screen is far too low, with lag sometimes exceeding thirty seconds in iPadOS (Android is also slow but still quicker). Events on the other hand are announced almost instantly

 I consider the matter resolved as far as this thread is concerned, and thank you for your help.

  @AGA001

App loading time can be affected by the operating state and network condition of the mobile device. Make sure your phone has stable network connection. When using the Tapo app, disable VPN, ad-blocker, or other related apps if any.

Restart the phone and make tests under different networks, e.g. home wifi and cellular data. If your network services are all from the same provider, try to test whether this situation exists when using network services from other providers, for example, use the wifi from a cafe, restaurant, or company.

As for the event log issue on the iOS app, where is the summary event log you mentioned? The 'expanded log', I guess it is the event log on the sensor's device page? Please share some screenshots here.

  @Wayne-TP No cellular or VPN connection involved. All testing done on a high performing LAN.

The delay is only noticed if I wait for the status to change on the iPad screen. But the hub beeps immediately, and if I click on the sensor icon right after opening or closing, the status shown is correct. I interpret this to mean that the app knows about the change, but delays a long time before refreshing the screen, unless specifically interrogated.

I am unable to reproduce the sorting problem today, but I am enclosing the screen shots in case you wish to investigate. Frankly, not important.

These are the "summary" and the "expanded" logs (my terminology).

I wish that the language used could differ from the default iPad language, as some of the translations are confusing.

  @AGA001

Further to all above, I have verified that the door open/close notification arrives almost instantly and unfailingly to the app, just as it does to the hub. I believe this is proof that the comms network and the hub do their job and that the app is made aware of the change in sensor status. The only thing that gets seriousy delayed (sometimes over thirty seconds) is the presentation on the iPad (or Android) screen, unless specifically interrogated.

Hope this helps.

  @Wayne-TP Thank you for your continued interest. I understand and accept the reasoning for the log not updating automatically.

Forget the log, I still think it would be useful to have the sensor picture (icon plus alphanumeric status) update more quickly, allowing for a dashboard style operation. One or two seconds would be of no consequence, thirty is clearly excessive in my eyes. May be in a future update?

You may raise a feature request post for it. Can you share the reason why you want a shorter interval for status updates? Do you need to continuously monitor the device status?

Typically, most home users will only access the app occasionally when needed or when they receive notifications.
