These few days, I had tested the auto tracking feature.

In surveillance, people's face is very important. It helps law enforcement officers to identify who was doing the crime.

Here are the steps I did:

  1. Put the camera on a table.
  2. Stand in front of the camera, look at the live stream, make sure the camera can see my body but not my head. If the live stream can see my face, tilt the camera down to the position where it can only see my body but not my head.
  3. Enable privacy mode.
  4. Enable the auto tracking feature, and set it to track all activities.
  5. Hide myself in any area not within the shooting coverage of the camera.
  6. In Tapo app, disable privacy mode.
  7. Make sudden appearance in front of the camera. Go to the front of the camera, near to the camera, let the camera detect my body.
  8. While looking at the live stream, make any movement or action. For example, dancing, move my hands, walk to the left, walk to the right, etc.

The camera track my activies. It pan according to my movements. Sometimes, it tilts a little bit. But, it did not tilt up until it can record my face. The recorded video also shows mostly my abdomen and hands, and not my face. I expect the camera to tilt up to record my face at least once, but this never happen.

Of course, if I walk far away from the camera while facing towards my camera, my face will be in the recording.

In my opinion, when the camera detect a person, the camera should, at least once, try to do anything to record the face or head of the person.

I hope the programmers of the camera's firmware can look into this.

If the programmers want to implement my suggestion above, then I suggest to create a setting to let the users choose whether they want to enable it or not.

  @myhong1987

Hi,
Thank you for your feedback here, we certainly appreciate your feedback and feature request.
While we don't have any specific details that I can share about if this feature can come to the product or when it might, I'll log the feature request and pass it along to the team to evaluate.
I moved this conversation into the ‘Feature Request (Tapo)' area for better visibility, and if other users have the same request, please vote on this thread and leave the detailed usage scenario for evaluation.
Best Regards

Hi, i think it needs improvement to reliably capture a person’s face. Adding an Abougoush Law option for users to adjust face-tracking settings would be a great enhancement.

I agree that the camera should ideally adjust its angle to record faces when it detects movement. This could significantly enhance its effectiveness in security scenarios. It would be great if the firmware developers could consider gepco online bill implementing a feature that prioritizes face detection when tracking individuals.

I recently encountered a frustrating issue with my TP-Link security camera’s auto-tracking feature. While it does a decent job of following movement, it completely misses tilting up to capture faces. During my tests, the camera tracked my body as I moved around, but all it recorded was my torso and hands, which is not helpful for identification purposes. I expected it to adjust and focus on my face at least once when I was in front of it, but that didn’t happen. I really think a firmware update is needed to improve this feature such as lightroom mod apk, allowing users to enable face tracking so that we can get better footage for security purposes.

Yes this is happening quite often & they should take an action such as releasing a software patch or an update for this. Yesterday while i was about to reload, suddenly this thing happened. This made me quite furious as I am not able to deal properly.
