Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.2.3

I use the ER605 to connect to my internet provider Telia via fiber and Dynamic IP. My log is alwas full (999+) as the router updates WAN IP every 10 minute!

"WAN: DHCP client lease expired. Began renewing the lease."

My internet provider says I have the same IP all the time and there must be something in my router. As I understand the WAN IP lease time is nothing I can do about on my (ER605) side, or?

Tjenare!

Go to Logs, then Notifications, then the tab Devices, scroll down to the two DHCP lines:

Unchecking all boxes prevents the DHCP messages being logged at all. If I remeber correctly, only Event is checked by default. Unless I am mistaken, the Client is when your ER605 is the client, eg when it gets the IP from Telia. The Server is when your ER605 hands out DHCP addresses to your devices on your local network.

I unchecked both since I prefer short lease times and have quite a few devices. Lycka till!

  @Borje_Lerum

there's a similar thread about DHCP logs here https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/648832?replyId=1299798&utm_source=Subscription&utm_medium=email

From a quick search , it seems that Telia have a DHCP lease time of 20 mins which would explain why the router is renewing at 10 mins.

My internet provider says I have the same IP all the time and there must be something in my router.

They (your ISP) may allocate the same IP all the time but they are only giving a 20 min lease each time!.

As I understand the WAN IP lease time is nothing I can do about on my (ER605) side,

Correct.

Seems its possible that a recent change in the router firmware may have started to log DHCP renewals where it didnt before...

Hi @Borje_Lerum

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

As said above, the log now records DHCP-related entries. You can disable it in the log settings.

My ER605v2  started doing the same.

I only checked because I was having connectivity issues that may or may not be related.   My connectivity issues are resolved for the main part but still some sites I can't get to, but able to ping.

I started getting the message every 5 mins.   For me it started on the 29th Dec according to the logs, which i checked only after I upgraded the firmware to the latest.  The upgrade wast done on 3rd Jan 2024.

WAN: DHCP client renewing IP succeeded. (IP-Address=x.x.x.x, Mask=255.255.254.0, Gateway=x.x.x.x)

In order to have only relevant things in the log I un-ticked these two items according to Haga_Nova, and now it stopped.

I get that, the question is why did they start recently? Not saying it's an issue, but why did it start happening, and in my case, it coincided with my connectivity issues. I can hide the notifications, but will that solve my problems if it's related.

My log is full with same notice about renew lease of WAN  IP.  Both my systems are using Starlink for ISP. One system with Starlink modem in Bridge mode gets public WAN IP renewed under 3 minutes!  Another system with S|tarlink modem in loop renews 192.168.1.X every 30 minutes.  I disabled recording the event tracking. (Un fixed)

@Borje_Lerum

DHCP renew time is the half of the time of the lease. So, if you see this repeated, you can disable the log.

Renew happens when the half of the lease time is reached. It is normal and expected.
