SD Cards
Hi all,
I'm having some issues with my aging Synology NAS struggling a bit responding quickly to activity on my camera and also doesn't support person recording.
I'm therefore that maybe I'll get myself a 512Gb Micro SD Card and I understand that on a 256Gb card I should be able to get 512 continuous hours (21 days) of recording so therefore 512 should give me plenty and probably over a month.
Are there any suggestions though because they range from £15 https://www.amazon.co.uk/HOQOFSE-Memory-Waterproof-Adapter-Tablet/dp/B0CKP5TMVD/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=micro+sd+card+512gb&qid=1703019716&sr=8-4 through to £30+ for a branded one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-microSD-Class-Memory-Adapter/dp/B09FFFQ9KT/ref=mp_s_a_1_54?keywords=micro+sd+card+512gb&qid=1703019786&sr=8-54
Also I'm assuming I can record to SD as well as recording to my NAS at the same time.
Many thanks

Hi,
1. You can refer to the link below to see the microSD card that works with the Tapo cameras.
General Information about using MicroSD Cards with TP-Link’s Kasa or Tapo Cameras?
Note:
* Samsung EVO is not supported on all cameras.
* Avoid using non-legitimate or fake MicroSD cards. To verify Fake MicroSD Card, please refer to How to Verify Fake Micro SD Cards.
When purchasing a microSD card, it is recommended to choose an official high-endurance SD card and go to its introduction and warranty pages to see if it is mentioned that the microSD card is not suitable for cameras.
2. If you have not subscribed to the Tapo Care service, you can record the video recordings to the microSD card and NAS at the same time.
Best Regards

Thanks for the update. I was hoping for some use cases of what people are using. I mean looking at the San Disk range, do I need the Extreme or can I use Ultra?
Also can I use continuous recording via the RTSP as well as having person and motion to the SD Card?

Hi,
Between the SanDisk Extreme microSD card and the SanDisk Ultra microSD card, I may recommend using the Extreme microSD card on the Tapo cam, however, since the SanDisk Ultra microSD card also can work with a camera, if the microSD card's format and capacity are suitable for your camera, you can also use the Ultra microSD card.

There are no settings on the Tapo app to set continuous recording for the RTSP stream, but you can set continuous recording on the device/program that streams the camera via RTSP.
The microSD card inserted into the camera can store the person and motion detection video clips, and you can also set store 24-hour video recordings to the microSD card.

Ok thanks, I see there is only £3 difference between the Ultra and the Extreme in 256Gb capacity. My plan is to have motion and person only going to the SD Card and then motion and continuously going to the NAS overnight as long as both will work together.
I've seen posts that you can't have Tapo Care, SD Card and RTSP at the same time but I don't be using Tapo Care.

Hi,
You are correct that you can't use Tapo Care, SD Card, and RTSP at the same time, and if you do not use Tapo Care, you can use the SD Card and RTSP at the same time.
Best Regards
