Tapo D230S1 Doorbell Video Call Feature
Tapo D230S1 Doorbell Video Call Feature
Hi,
I have just purchased and setup my TAPO Tapo D230S1 Doorbell.
I have not been able to get the video call feature to work when the doorbell is pressed.
I have an android and all permissions are allowed.
I get standard alerts when notification and motion alerts are activated. But I only want notifications about motion alerts at night, not all day long. If I set a schedule or deactivate motion alerts then I don't get doorbell press notifications either..... I wish I could separate these functions.
I really want to get the video call function working, or I will have no choice to go back to my ring doorbell and return this unit.
Please help.
Adam.

Hi All,
With Smart Action 2.0, you can configure on the Tapo app not to receive notifications when the camera detects events, but to receive notifications when someone presses the doorbell. Below are the detailed steps.
1. On the camera's Device Settings>Notifications page, you can disable the notification feature, and the camera won't receive notifications when it detects events.
2. On the Smart tab, try to add an Automation entry:
1) Trigger is when the doorbell is pressed.
2) Action is Send Me Notifications, and you can customize the notification content.
Best Regards

Hi,
Thank you for the case report.
Currently, when the Doorbell Video Call feature is enabled on the Tapo app for the Tapo D230, you will receive a call that displays as Tapo Doorbell when someone presses your Tapo D230 and when you open the Tapo app.
If the Tapo app or the phone screen is closed, you will receive a notification that ringing is different from other notifications on your phone when someone presses your Tapo D230, and you can press it to go to the Tapo app to receive the video call.
Thank you very much for your feedback about the notification feature, I'll record it and forward it to the related team to evaluate.

@Solla-topee The problem is that if notifications are turned off to prevent motion alerts then there are also no doorbell button press alert. I've also tried changing the detection area but this doesn't seem to work.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your updates. However, the notification case you reported has nothing to do with the activity zone settings.
About the notification feedback, I'll forward your inquiry to add the feature to separate the detection notification and doorbell pressed notification to the related team to evaluate, and we will continuously improve our products and deliver the best performance possible.
Best Regards

Same problem as I have. I bought it 2 days ago and although I have all the notifications on, I still dont get a call if someone is at the door. Have you found a fix for this?
Thanks,
Daniel

Hi,
Please help confirm the following information for your issue.
1. On the Tapo app>Device Settings page of the D230>Doorbell>Doorbell Video Call page, is the Doorbell Video Call option enabled?
2. On the Device Settings>Detection page, what detection type have you enabled?
3. On the Device Settings>Notifications page, please describe your notification settings.
4. On the Live View page of the Tapo D230, what can you see when someone is pressing the doorbell?
Best Regards

I have a similar problem. Really need the ability to enable the notifications for doorbell separately from the notifications for motion detection. Please can you prioritise this enhancement?
I always want to get a doorbell notification but I don't want motion detection notifications during the day.
This issue severely restricts the usefulness of the doorbell, as the notifications can only be enabled/disabled for all activity types at same time. So essentially I have to switch off motion detection completely if I still want doorbell alerts.
Like others, I bought this doorbell due to great experience with other Tapo products and to stay within Tapo ecosystem, but very disappointed that some basic functionality is missing from this product.

It's a shame, but I had to send it back. I really liked all the other features it has, but the main one for me was the ability to answer over the phone when I am away.
Ordered the google doorbell and hoping for that to work well.

@alex6361 One work around is to have the motion detection zone set very small during the day and larger overnight. Use the Home and Away buttons to swap between them.

Is there any update on whether either of the following enhancements are being worked on?
At least one of these(ideally both) would make it much more practical to use the doorbell functionality and motion detection functionality at the same time without being spammed with notifications.
1) Doorbell video call works independently of notifications (and even when app is closed / phone locked )
2) Notifications for doorbell can be configured independently from other notifications (motion detection etc)
Thanks
