Hello ,

 

I own currently 2 Tapo security cameras:

1. Tapo C320WS Hardware version 2.0 and firmware 1.0.4

2. Tapo C200 Hardware version 3.0 and firmware 1.3.4

Wireless signal strength for 1 -60 and for 2 -65

Wireless setup from the house is 3 unit Deco X50, with 2 of then bound by cable directly. Internet is very reliable and fast.

When making the first setup I configure them on Tapo app on iPhone, latest version. Everything works well, but I noticed a big lag time when accessing the cameras when I'm outside the Wireless network, on 4G or 5G. Is that a normal thing, or should I make some tweaks ?

So a random time to load the feeds in Tapo app when I'm home on wireless is 1-3 seconds. That's ok. But when I'm away , it varies from 5- 20 seconds (on good cellular connection 4g or 5g). I also have port forwarded their ip's but still no improvement.

I own a Synology DS220+ NAS and got them configure in DS Cam also, recording on my internal hdd, and sometimes if I enter DS app it loads the feed a little bit faster than Tapo own app...

I also have SD cards in them, Kingston class 10, set only to person detection only recording, but I don't think this is relevant to the loading issues.

Hi,
Generally, accessing the camera in the remote network will slower than access it when in the local network because accessing the camera remotely needs to go through the cloud server.
In this case, the cameras' signal strengths are not very good, if it's possible to move the camera closer to the Deco, please have a try.
And if the camera connects to a satellite deco, please connect it to the main deco for a try.
You can also check if you can access the camera faster when connecting to another Wi-Fi network on your phone.

  @Solla-topee Considering the fact that when I'm on the wireless network the connection is much faster and when I'm on the cellular connection, no, the simplest answer is that the cloud is very slow. I cannot change the position of the deco satellites because they are installed according to the possibilities of the house. regardless, the wireless signal is very good. for example, one of the video cameras is a maximum of 5 meters from the deco satellite. the speedtest done with the phone near that deco is somewhere around 250-300 Mbps. so it wouldn't be a problem of low speed or bad signal.

Hi,
As we know, uploading videos to the cloud server and then streaming them on your phone in the remote network will take more time than streaming videos directly on the Tapo app in the local network, and the network environment and quality will also affect the time spent. In this case, the connection between the mobile phone and the cloud server may be relatively slow, you can try to connect the phone to another Wi-Fi network for a better experience. And you can keep using the Tapo app if it does not affect your normal usage.
