Model: TL-R600VPN
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version:

Hiya, please delete this if not suited.

Ive currently done a full rewire on a camp site which has a new routing of

Router -> TL-R600VPN -> L2 24port switch

TL-R600VPN

Wan : Router, Port 1 : Switch, Port 2 : Server 1, Port 3 : Server 2, Port 4 : Empty.

(This is alot more heavy than this but the basics are only needed to show for now.)

What I want to do is access Server 1 and Server 2 remote management via VPN.

The router is a Genexis DRG488

Im not asking someone to just hand it to me on a plate but some decent advise would be great.

I have purchased Express VPN as nordVPN doesnt support the protocols that I want.

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/faq/2161/?utm_medium=select-local

I have just come across this guide and im hoping someone can clerify if this is suitable for what I want.

Will this basically put me on that network and allow me to act as im local to that network so I can just access more than the Servers ?

Or is there a more viable way of doing this ?

The Network Routing at the moment is

192.168.1.254 for DRG Router, 192.168.0.1 for R600VPN.

Thankyou

Daryl

@dorksville

1. Setup VPN server on R600VPN. If you need to access your server in different places, you can set up client to LAN L2TP VPN.

If your VPN clients are not in the fixed place, you can set up remote gateway as 0.0.0.0/0, it means that everyone can try to connect the VPN.

2. R600VPN is behind DRG488, so you need to setup port forwarding on DRG488. You need to open port for UDP 1701, 500, 4500, otherwise VPN clients cannot access R600VPN.

@dorksville

It seems that your router is behind other router. You need to open UDP port for your VPN router. Make sure that your front router support to open port then configure it.

@dorksville Hi Getting an error 14, do you remember what your issue was as I can't find the meaning of error 14?

I encountered Error 14 too, and was looking for reasons.

In the end, it was my mistake so i will share my solution. It may not be the only solution. My Responder was an ER6120 and was showing error 14 in phase 1. However, i had selected the wrong interface for the VPN in the WAN interface setting. I had selected an inactive interface. It still showed in the logs with no specific error but after i selected the correct incoming WAN interface on the responder, the tunnel came up.
