Model: VIGI VMS
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.5.14

Hi,

I just purchased a Vigi C540S that works fine with Vigi VMS.

I'm now trying to add my Tapo C520WS in the VMS but this one is never found, even when trying to add it manually sad

That camera is working fine with the Tapo App and can be accessed using ONVIF protocol with VLC or iSpy without any problem.

Before trying to add it to TP-Link VIgi VMS, I added an account to the camera using the Tapo App and got it's actual IP address.

When trying to add it manually the Vigi VMS tells  : No device information obtained

When trying to add it into Vigi Security Manager, it seems to find the camera and ask me to type a password for the "admin" account. It is not possible to select the account I created with the Tapo App. Within the Tapo App, I tried to create an account with the name "admin" but the app tells me that that name is too short frown

I tried to restart the camera both by software and hardware but nothing changes.

I didn't tried the hardware reset because I need a ladder to access it and it's not easy.

Does anyone have some experience for adding such a camera ?

Does it help to make a hardware reset ?

Thanks in advance for your help or for sharing your experience.

Hi @OG6800

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

VMS is for the VIGI. VIGI uses a private protocol for connection. Recommend you consider the VIGI cameras.

VSM can add Tapo but it requires the admin as the username. That's been the case since day 1 of the VSM.

Not sure Tapo system but I have seen people adding Tapo to the NVR safely. It could be a firmware issue on a Tapo camera if it refuses you to set the username as admin.

See this guide about Tapo and VIGI: https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/2850/

NVR can surely add the Tapo or most other third-party cameras. Certain may not work due to the protocol or config issue. But this is also acceptable as the same product line has the best compatibility.

For the camera, if you need to join a new network, it usually requires a reset. But if you can access the camera app, you can reset it from there? Not sure Tapo app supports a manual reset on the software-level.
