Migrate from SDN controller to OC200
Migrate from SDN controller to OC200

Model: OC200
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 5.13.24

I would want to migrate my controller from the SDN software controller (current version 5.13.30.8) to a new OC200 hardware controller (Built-in Omada SDN Controller 5.13.24). I have followed this explanation: https://www.tp-link.com/nl/support/faq/3589/

As said in that link: "Note that for Controller v 4.3.0 and above, only the file from the Controller with the same major and minor version number can be imported." For that reason I was unable to migrate.

Downgrading is not an option because I can't find a version for the OC200 and SDN controller that has the same versionnumber. Plus downgrading the current SDN controller means I don't have the possibility to restore my current backup (https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/616596; " Please note that backup files cannot be restored from a higher firmware version to a lower one.") In that way I will lose all settings and would have to start all over again.

How can I migrate my site to the newly bought OC200 controller?

  @Michiel_H

The warning is ambiguous, it means you should be able to do says 5.13.4 to 5.13.8 as a controller migration (as 5.13 are the major and minors).

However, what they don't tell you is that the architecture of the controller is slighly different between the software and hardware controllers and the above no longer applies.  To my knowledge the only way to do that is use Site Migration, and that requires that the donor machine is <= the Major.Minor version of the destination.  So you can migrate a site from say 5.9.12 to 5.13.24 but not the other way around.  Hope that Helps!

Note to TPlink...another reason to expose the schema of the backup file.

  @d0ugmac1 In that case I would have two solutions:
1. Wait until the firmware from OC200 can be upgraded to a higher version (in the meantime don't upgrade the software controller).

2. Downgrade the software controller. But will I be able to restore my backup from the higher version after downgrading?

you can freely move sites back and forth between 5.13.x hardware/software controllers.

  @d0ugmac1
I have some time to test this again. But unfortunately it is not possible. While importing the following message is shown:
"For controller v5.13.11.41 and above, only the configuration file from the controller with the same first-three-part version number (Major.Minor.Patch) can be imported."

When trying the following error is shown:
"Failed to restore because the file is incompatible"

So migrating from v5.13.30.8 to v5.13.24 is not possible.

The last software controller versions (v5) are:
5.13.30.8

5.13.23

5.13.22

5.12.7

5.9.31

The last OC200 controller versions (v5) are:
5.13.24

5.12.9

5.9.32

5.6.4

How in the world will it ever be possible to migrate from a software controller to a OC200?

Hank, tell me this isn't so?  If it is, do I need to submit a feature request to actually make it possible again to migrate sites between h/w and s/w controllers?

  @d0ugmac1

Yes, it is the truth. We will report this issue to the released department. However, I have received news that our hardware controller will update its firmware to version 5.13.30. X later.

  @Hank21

I'm on the exact same boat, is my only option to wait the whatever X later means? or would it be possible for me to downgrade my software controller without losing my current site configuration?

Hi@LuisPalacios

I am afraid you cannot restore the configuration file from software controller v5.13.30.8 to previous version. If you don't want to configure the controller on hardware again, we may suggest you wait for its update patiently.
