Frustrated with TP-Link Support: OC300, ER7206, and WireGuard Confusion
Hey TP-Link community,
I'm at my wit's end after a baffling conversation with TP-Link support. I'm hoping someone here can help me make sense of it all. I've got an OC300 controller with an ER7206 router, and I want to enable WireGuard VPN functionality with multiple client/peer connections. The ER7206 firmware update (1.3.0) supports WireGuard, but the OC300 (1.14.7) doesn't seem to have that functionality yet.
Long story short, the support agent suggested that I should run the Windows or Linux software controller to configure the ER7206 since my OC300 doesn't support WireGuard yet. However, their remarks kept getting tangled up in confusion, with them saying things like "don't run the two controller in the same compurter" and "run them at different compurter." It's like talking to a brick wall!
As far as I know, the OC300 is a hardware device (only) that runs on the network and connects to the network, not a software running on a computer. (Heck, did I buy this thing for nothing???) Can someone please help me decipher this cryptic support conversation and advise me on how to proceed?
Here's the game plan I extracted from the support chat - I think:
1. Disconnect the ER7206 from the OC300 hardware controller.
2. Unplug / disconnect the OC300 from the network.
3. Install the TP-Link Windows or Linux software controller on a separate computer.
4. Connect the ER7206 to the computer running the software controller - or to the same network (???).
5. Adopt the ER7206 into the Windows or Linux software controller.
6. Configure the ER7206 with WireGuard VPN functionality using the Windows or Linux software controller.
7. Work as if I never purchased an OC300...
Is this the right approach, or am I barking up the wrong tree? I'd appreciate any help or insights from real humans who have dealt with a similar setup or at least understand the topology of the situation (and English) better.
Thanks in advance, and I apologize for the emotional venting. I'm just feeling like I'm stuck in a technical purgatory with support that seems to speak a different language and doesn't really have contextual presence with the technology.
