Model: ER7206 (TL-ER7206)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.3

Hi,

I recently bought a TP-Link setup (OC200 omada controller, TL-SG3210XHP-M2 Jetstream switch and ER7206 Safestream router).  Both the switch and omada controller works flawlessly, well even the router would be working except I can't get internet access if I plug the WAN port directly into my modem.

I previously had a linksys WRT1900AC, but is kind of limited for what I want.  Internet works perfectly on my linksys, but as soon as I plug my modem into the WAN port of my ER7206, nothing, well there was this one time were, after I rebooted the ER7206, I had internet connection for 1 second (enough time to load a webpage and even showed some data transfer up/down), then nothing.

One thing I found when debugging this, was that my modem (a TC4400-AM) could have a default IP of 192.168.0.1, which is the same as the default from the ER7206, so I tried to change the ER7206 to 192.168.0.2.  I don't have access to the configuration setting of my modem since it belong to my ISP.  The IP of my linksys is 192.168.1.1

I've tried many things, rollback the firmware to 1.2.1, let the modem connected to WAN port overnight, factory reset my devices more than once, including my modem, Tried to copy the MAC address of my modem, removed the SFP WAN leaving only the RJ45 WAN port.

I've talked with my ISP technician and he told me the only protection they have is if I plug the modem into more than 3 devices one after the other, doing so would block the connection for 4 or 8 hours (can't remember the exact time).

The only thing that make the internet working is modem to linksys (WAN), then linksys (LAN) to ER7206 (WAN).  But that's not a setup I want to use

I've searched to solve this issue and only thing that came out was people getting new routers.  But I don't feel like this is a good solution, I'm sure there's something better to do than getting another router (unless the issue comes from the V1.0 and is fixed in the V1.6), maybe a default setting that needs to be turned ON or OFF.

Thank you for your help.

t sounds like an ip conflict, try and change the LAN ip on controller before adopting the router. you can not have same IP net on WAN and LAN

you should also change the ip in stand alone before you adopt the router, or wait to connect to the WAN before the router is adopted.

Hi, thank you for your input.

However, it still doesn't work.  When I saw that the modem could have an IP of 192.168.0.1 I did change the network, I tried it on 10.10.0.1 (last try changing the LAN IP was on 192.168.0.2, I also tried 192.168.1.1 because it was my linksys router).  I also found that the modem could have 198.162.100.10, I just forgot to mention it in my first post.

This time I tried exactly your IP 192.168.30.1, still nothing.  While trying your setting, I was looking at my router property in Omada, under WAN.  When I reboot my modem, it momentarily shows an IP address of 192.168.100.10 and a gateway of 192.168.100.1, after a few seconds, it shows disconnect.

So my guess is that there's a brief connection between my router and modem, but that connection get lost quickly (hence why I was able to load a webpage and able to get the 192.168.100.10 IP from my router)

So I tried to put a static IP 192.168.100.10 and 192.168.100.1 in my WAN settings.  Omada show WAN is connected, but still no internet access.

I tried to search for the firmware 1.1.1 but I can't find earlier version that 1.2.0.

Once again I returned to my linksys router and it work after, so my internet connection is not to blame.

Edit: I found the 1.1.1 firmware and it didn't help

Yes. Exactly like that

I did try at some point to set the connection type to Static IP and put the IP I was getting from my modem 192.168.100.10 ... But none works, Dynamic IP nor Static IP

I'm wondering if the factory default settings allow for internet connection or if I need to change default setting to make it work.  Are there any security settings or accessibility settings or profile I need to look for?  Could it be an incompatibility issue between my modem (TC4400) and router ER7206.

I have some update.

I tried something

  • Turned OFF modem and router for 1 min
  • Plugged ethernet cable from router WAN port to modem
  • While modem OFF, unplugged coaxial cable from ISP
  • Turned ON router while keeping modem OFF
  • Waited for router to fully boot up
  • Router booted and coaxial cable unplugged, turned ON the modem
  • The modem was stuck not finding a connection to ISP, normal since coaxial cable unplugged
  • The router was able to get a link with the modem, and I could see the IP address and gateway in Omada
  • The link between router and modem was stable
  • I waited to see if the link would break, but no, after a few minutes Omada was still displaying the IP of the modem
  • I plugged the coaxial cable into the modem
  • Once the modem connected with the ISP through coaxial cable, the link was lost

my internet provider would need to send a technician for this, could cost 100 if the issue is my equipment

Is there any known compatibility issues between ER7206 and TC4400 AM ?

I tested this morning before going to work.

What I got from connecting directly PC to modem.

I did an " arp -a " in command prompt :

My PC interface received an IP of 169.254.82.204 and 169.254.255.255 appeared in the list

No internet connection

Tonight, after work, I will try to clone the MAC address of my linksys router.  I feel like it's my ISP that's blocking my connection so maybe if I clone my working router, it will work

it looks like you don't get internet from the pc either, can you send a screenshot of the wan settings on your old router?

I cloned the MAC address of my router, and now it works.

I think the issue is the modem is locking the MAC address and only a tech from my ISP can unlock it.
