Region : Hongkong

Model : TL-R600VPN

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version :

ISP :

Hi,

I have a TL-R600VPN on one-end with PPTP service enabled. The other end is a TL-WR841N wireless router. My host is connected to TL-WR841 and successfully connected to the PPTP service on TL-R600VPN. I have iPhone, Android and Windows 7 PCs. Many internet sites are accessible however some are not.

For example, I am able to ping www.expedia.com from command line while connected to VPN. However I am not able to access it from IE, Firefox or Chrome. As soon as I disconnect VPN, the the browser can connect to the sites fine. Some other sites with the same issues include www.tripadvisor.com, www.bloomberg.com/radio. The symptoms are exactly the same.

I am reasonably technical but don't what to do next to troubleshoot this. Also I have the same issues on several different PCs and ISPs so not a machine or ISP related issue.

Thanks
Frank

Do you have blocked some ports? Try to add manually a dns server on youre device.

Thanks Dabi.

No, I don't think I blocked any ports, all default settings on the routers. By device, you mean my PCs right? I tried that as well, still the same issues. I can see the traveladvisor hung on c1.tacdn.com.

yes your pc or on the android . Try googles 8.8.8.8. whats with your ip ranges? Please descripe these . Perhaps you need a static route or you have to fill in the gateway from your host . Please give some more informations.

Tried Google's DNS, the same problem.

Below is the network configuration info of the host and VPN server. The default gateway is set correctly otherwise none of the web sites should work. The problems seem more relate to web analytic URL embeded in the problem sites.

In case someone having the same problem, this has been resolved. Apparently this is a common MTU size problem, which i managed to resolve by reducing the MTU size to 1300 on my PPTP connection. On Windows 7, with the following command (Run as Administrator).
netsh interface ipv4 set subinterfaces "VPN" mtu=1300 store=persistent

This is a useful thread: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=86329&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Wondering whether I can set MTU size on TL-R600 router? there is no such option in the web admin interface.
