Hi all,

Today i installed 3x EAP245.
I updated the firmware to the latest i could find (the one from 170828) on all of them with no issues.

I also installed the latest (again that i could find) EAP controller (v2.5.1) on my windows server 2012.
Most of the configuration has been done (via the controller) and all is working except for a guest SSID with portal authentication (Facebook).

In the Controller, Under basic Wireless Setting, i create the guest SSID, but there is NO portal option to select, it simply doesn't exist.
If i log in on each EAP245 separately, the option is there for the newly created guest SSID, i can select it, but when going back to the Controller, that doesn't seem to have any effect.

So it seems as if the Controller doesn't catch the setting from the EAPs, more so, it looks as if they forgot to implement this setting in the Controller software.

Went through the manuals for both the EAP and the controller, but no solution there.
Could this be a mismatch between the controller software version and the EAP firmware version?
Anybody else encountered this problem? Or any ideas?

I thought about an IE11 issue maybe (yes, the 2012 server still uses this as default browser and as a result the controller uses it), but since this is the only thing missing it is highly unlikely.

Hope you guys can help me out...

Thanks

Tom

If you can log in to the web UI of an EAP, this EAP is not being managed (i.e. was not adopted) by the controller. The web UI of an EAP is disabled if the controller manages this EAP.

Of course, you could easily use a better browser from another workstation to connect to the controller. Just address http://ipnumber:8088, where ipnumber is the IP of your server running the EAP controller.

Here is the option for turning on/off a portal based on the SSID:

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I maybe should have made myself more clear :)
I know that when the controller is started, i can't log in on the web UI of the eap.

I just pointed out that when i log in on the eap ui (when the controller is stopped), the portal option is there.
When i start the eap controller, and log in on the controller ui, the option isn't there.

It's not a browser issue, tried Firefox and chrome and exactly the same thing.
So my assumption before was correct.

Actually, in the latest EAP Controller, you don't need to select Portal enable when you create a new SSID.

When you configure the portal function, you can bind it to the specific SSID.

Yes, thanks for the correction. It's even easier with latest EAP Controller to set up a portal for a SSID.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

Well, that is exactly what i did, create a new guest SSD in the portal tab.
But for some reason, it's not working for me in that it just allows everyone to connect (since there is no security mode and doesn't seem to take the portal option into account).

Not sure what's wrong here, should be straight forward to set up...

You create a SSID in the Wireless tab. Then you create a portal in the Portal tab and assign this portal to the SSID (remember to apply the changes!).
This works for me including portal functionality for the assigned SSID (tested in EAP Controller 2.5.3).

Hi,

For a reason I don't catch, when I activate the Portal on a SSID, I am geting an security message from Chrome saying that the connection is not safe. I can't then access to the portal page for authentification.

It used to work in the past with the original version of the FW. I had to updated in order to be able to manage also some bandwith limit, but I cannot make the portal to work with the updated FW.

Any idea where it could come from?
