Hello together,
i have a question about a ac50 Controller. What is the prefered topology of connecting the caps?
Can i connect my router to the ac50 and connect the caps to the ac50, or do i need a switch between Router and ac50?
i want to connect my router to the ac50 and the caps directly to the ac50. But it seems not possible. Or do i need to use
specific ports? (router to port 1 and caps to port 2-5)
Thanks for your help...
Thorsten

Hi Thorsten, how many CAPs do you have? Actually, a PoE switch is more convenient for power supply and to manage all your CAPs. If you need to setup VLAN function or other advanced functions, a PoE switch is better. See the attachment.
But if you indeed don't need a switch, you can use a PoE injector for power supply. The power consumption of CAP is only 12.7w, so it can be used with 802.3af standard PSE (power supply equipment) together such as TL-POE150S.

PoE power consumption depends also on cable length. Loss of efficiency on long cables is often around 20% to 30%. For example, on a 100m cable, resistance can be up to 12Ω, yielding a power loss of 3.85W. Total power for 802.3af available for a device on a 100m cable is therefore only 11.55 watts. But even on short cables you should leave some headroom. Therefore, CAP1750 is specified to require 802.3at, not 802.3af. Only CAP300 (5W) should be operated 802.3af.

Thanks for your answer...
yes, i understand that it is more convenient with a POE Switch.
But is it possible to connect the CAPS (i have 2 CAP300) via LAN Cable direct to the ac50 (with seperate power for every CAP) or is a switch between ac50 and Router mandatory?
Router-------AC50--------CAP
You know what i mean?

Yes, that's possible.

Of course, it's possible. Every CAP300 can work with an external 12VDC/1.5A power supply or a PoE injector(at or af standard).

You are right. 802.3at is preferred acceptable for CAP1750. But since CAP1750 only needs 12.7W, some 802.3af PoE injector will also work as long as the PoE injector (such as TL-POE150S, 15.4W) supports a needed power consumption.
