Hello, I am running into issues where after setting up VLAN's, all inter-vlan traffic is going through the router. Now, this is something I should have known but I am not a network engineer and am learning about networking and security.

My plan is to setup another TP-Link switch that supports 8 to 10 ports with 1G/2.5G/5G/10G interface speeds so that I may connect my Proxmox nodes and my NAS to this higher capacity switch as a server/storage switch, and then pass all client traffic to a higher capacity 24-port switch for other communication. One of my Proxmox nodes is running OPNsense in a VM which is my router, which if I can switch this to 10G speeds, reduces a significant portion of inter-vlan communication bottlenecks that may appear.

Currently, I've found the TL-SX3008 which seems to support 1G/10G only, but Ideally I would be able to have 2.5G or 5G port speeds in addition to 10G speeds. 4 of my Proxmox nodes are mini-pcs which will only support 2.5 or 5G speeds through USB-C Ethernet adapter, so that is the main reason to have these multiple speed options.

I want the following, based on what my nodes will support:

NAS: 10G

Proxmox nodes:

  - Hyper4 (OPNsense VM): 10G

  - Hyper2,3,5,6: 2.5G or 5G

What Omada switches support the type of configuration that I am looking for?

Hi @WholesomeTRex

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

Fiber interface, no. 1 or 10G.

RJ45 if it is a 10G, that's compatible with 2.5 and 5.

TP-Link doesn't have many switches with this speed without being very expensive, so you'd better look at the competitor who has lots of switches with the features you want for a much cheaper price. But here are some that I found.

Yeah, I've been looking through and while there are certainly some that would fit the minimum use case for me, there aren't many that would allow me to expand without significant cost. I believe that I have found one from a competitor that is 12x 10G SFP+ ports that I will just use with transceivers that scale down to 2.5G for my specific cases and then use the full 10G speeds with DAC cables.
