Model: TC70
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.4.0 Build 241212 Rel.39881n

I recently bought the Tapo TC70 and it has already been updated to the latest firmware version, but I noticed two strange things. The first is that the indicator LED turns red, but the camera continues to work normally. The other, more serious problem, is that the camera loses connection randomly, without warning, and without special conditions occurring. When it loses connection, it does not reconnect, unless I unplug it from the power outlet and plug it back in, which makes me think that it simply froze. Every time this happens, the LED is red, but as I said before, this does not always indicate a problem. Right now, the camera has the red LED on and I can use it without any problems.

The strength of the network signal where the camera is located is excellent, but I imagine that if it were a simple disconnection or problem with my network, the camera would reconnect when the network became available, which does not happen.

All of this that I reported was using the camera app, that is, in its NORMAL use, it is already losing connection, however I must point out that this camera is connected to my NVR, which accesses it through ONVIF and everything works perfectly, until the camera "dies", forcing me to restart it (turn it off/on).

Note: I am not using an SD card or cloud recording service.

Hi,
1. You can refer to the instructions below to troubleshoot if the camera has an unstable issue.
What should I do if my Tapo smart device keeps losing connection or going Offline?

2. It should be the camera is connected to the Wi-Fi but no internet when it has a red light but you can control it locally.

3. Please confirm the following information if the problem remains.
  1) What's the model number of your router? Please describe your network diagram in detail.
  2) How often does the issue happen?
  3) When the camera is working, please go to its Device Settings > Device Info page, tap the Wi-Fi icon, and send us the RSSI value.
  4) You can test if the camera will work after rebooting the router when the issue occurs.

Best Regards

Hello, I recently had some problems using my ASUS router. In this case, it was only affecting the 5GHz network, and since the camera does not use this network, I figured that this should not be the problem. In any case, I have already installed a new router (TP-Link EX220V2) and so far the camera is responsive, and the LED is always green. I will continue monitoring it in the following days to see if the problem returns.

That said, just to answer your questions:

1. I had already seen these instructions, and I did everything that applied to my previous router, but nothing solved the problem

2. No, when the LED was red, most of the time I could access the camera even when I was outside my local network, using the Tapo app

3.1. My old router was an ASUS RT-AC59U, fully updated with the manufacturer. My network is simple: a Nokia modem connected to the fiber optic, and in one of its ethernet ports the RT-AC59U was connected, to this router I connected to the WAN port. All my devices, wi-fi or not, were connected to the ASUS. Currently my new router (EX220V2) has exactly the same configuration.
3.2. The problem occurred at least once a week, and often a few hours AFTER the camera was rebooted.
3.3 Currently, with the new router, the value is -42
3.4 I was unable to do this test and now that I am using the new router, I have not needed to.

Until now, using the EX220v2, everything is working as it should. Maybe an Asus router problem not noted by another devices on the 2.4GHz network? The truth must be said: I also enabled the automatic restart every day at 00:00, so i guess we will not know if there was an asus router problem or a camera problem.
