Model: ER7206 (TL-ER7206)
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: V1_1.4.2 Build 20240618

Here is my current network setup:

- tp-link er7206, have dhcp as 192.168.0.1, the wan port is connecting from the ONT unit than turn the fiber optic cable to ethernet, the internet provider provide me the pppoe account to type and received the internet.

- gt-ax11000, have dhcp 192.168.5.1, i connect from lan port 2 of tp-link er7206 to wan port of gt-ax11000.

What i want to achieve:

- Since i running out of port of asus router for other devices, i want to have additional to lan port. So i'm thinking about turn the lan port 3 and 4 of er7206 into additional lan port for asus router.

I try the last few day with these configuration.

The vlan setup.

In the lan settings of er7206, there are the section to create additional dhcp, I create an additional dhcp relay with the dhcp server of asus router 192.168.5.1,
- IP: 192.168.5.3
- subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

- vlan: 20

in the vlan tab, now it show the vlan 20. Inside the vlan tabs, i untick lan port 5, and set lan port 2 (as tag), lan port 3 and 4 as untags.

There already the vlan 1 running inside tp-link er7206, so i untick the lan port 3 and 4, and keep lan port 2 and 5 as untag.

When i apply the settings and plug devices into the lan port 3, nothing is working. Is there any other thing that i can do.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Lyonelle

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

What you asked is impossible to do.

They are different devices and they don't work in that way. VLAN I mean. Setting up the VLAN does not make it become a part of the ASUS clients.

@Clive_A is there other option? I try to turn off DHCP and try to turn of dhcp on tp-link er7206 but i lose the internet conection and have to reset the tp-link. Does it possible to turn off dhcp on tp-link and let asus handle the dhcp instead? Does it possible to make tp-link ethernet port join the asus dhcp subnet (something like a switch)?

if all you wish to achive is

Then why not set the Asus in access point mode. You then just have one DHCP server ( the ER7206 ) and one LAN. You can use all the LAN ports on both the asus and the 7206.

If you want to have a LAN subnet of 192.168.5.x then just change the 7206 IP and DHCP range to that.

@MisterW for security reason. I have 2 other asus access point. In which it become a mesh network. Other wifi is not at my sight be 10 meters away. I place it near the garages If bad actor plug in the ethermet port. It allow them to gain access not just the asus mesh network but including the tp-link er7206.

The router is a router. We don't support it to be a switch by "turning off" some functions. It is not possible to do it.
