Tapo P110M update for Matter 1.3
With the new matter 1.3 support being released containing support for energy monitoring devices like the P110M, when will we see the firmware update support for the new matter standard? I assume that it is planned.
The current matter firmware for the P110M doesn't account for the new 1.3 standard. The P110M being advertised as both an energy monitoring device and matter compatible, there's a huge gap here at the moment because without the new matter standard update; the P110M is just a smart relay.

Welp, in my case I'm guessing I'll go buy Tuya instead. It uses Zigbee, so it's guaranteed to not phone home, I guess. If they ever fix this...nonsense I might reconsider, but I needed it now, and now this thing is clearly not ready.

I am also keenly awaiting Matter 1.3 update to intergate with Home Assistant. You would sell so much more of these if this happens.

I still have 2 in their shrink wrapper which i have not set up (because i dont want to re-set them up when matter support is introduced).
I'm not purchasing anymore until the matter support is introduced.
Unfortunately, I think tp-link is benefiting here off their deceptive practices of having "matter" support on the box for a product that is advertised as a energy monitor. They may not care about this feature/or function because they know people will keep buying it.
What I feel though based on silence here, is that TP-link is just going to release a v2 of this device with the support and not backdate the firmware. This is why i'm not buying anymore yet until TP-Link is open with their plans and i'm actively encouraging no one else purchase either.
Can't shake feeling deceived.

@Cammm It's definitely a bummer when a device isn't fully living up to its potential due to firmware limitations. Since the Tapo P110M is advertised as matter compatible and an energy monitoring device, it’s reasonable to expect that the firmware update for the new matter 1.3 standard should be on its way. Often, these updates follow soon after new standards are released, especially if it's already planned. Keep an eye on official announcements from Tapo or reach out to their support for a more specific timeline. Hopefully, they’ll roll it out soon so you can make full use of your P110M!

It's not safe to assume we will get this firmware, see this from support:
-----++
I am not able to 100% confirm Tapo P110M at some point will get a firmware update to enable power monitoring over matter.
Because the R&D department is currently in the preparation phase for all ongoing projects. At this moment, we do not have a specific timeline, nor can we confirm which particular models will be supported.

What's also a problem here, is that if you put in "Matter energy monitor" in to Google, it appears as if TP-Link is directly advertising this as a matter energy monitor, as the P110M comes up in the advertised results.
The advertising on the Amazon page is pretty direct saying matter compatability, and energy monitoring:
And on the feature list as well there is no break out on either matter supported or energy monitoring to show that it's only partial support.

Mind the P110M was released a year ago in Matter 1.0 times and that's when the promotional material was written. At that time it was implicit that energy reporting was not available via Matter. Now that platforms are starting to support Matter 1.3 and expectations are different, a clarification is indeed needed to avoid confusion.
I have no doubt they'll update them eventually, what users miss is a timeline. That's the way TP-Link works though, they have many teams around the globe and even internally they don't share information so take what support says with a pinch of salt, they probably know the same we do.
The ESP32 SDK for Matter 1.3 was released by the end of June, which I assume is what Tapo uses, and many countries had summer holidays so it's going to take time. I assume we will see Matter 1.3 support for the P110M when they launch the missing P115M and P300M announced last year at IFA, there's no excuse to launch those with an old Matter version with no energy reporting.
Edit: Turns out Tapo uses Realtek chips instead of the more typical ESP32 used in other brands. I've not been able to find the state of Matter 1.3 in Realtek SoCs, but that could actually be the reason. That and having to pay to re-certificate the device for any Matter firmware update.

I'll buy from other brands like Meross that do support it.
They don't, it is not even listed in the official CSA site for certified Matter 1.3 products so don't buy it yet. Currently we are in a situation where some vendors have firmwares certified for Matter 1.3 but almost nobody (maybe it's actually nobody) has actual products with the update.
