Model: ER7212PC
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.1

Hi,

My Setup is as follows...

TP-LINK TL-SG2428P Switch

TP-LINK ER7212PC Router

Initially I had ports 3&4 on the ER setup as WAN, with Provider 1 & 2 coming in, when I pull the plug on Port 3 within a few seconds its switches to Port 4 and vice versa, all seemed to work well.

However, in order to POE my provider modems I connected them to the switch, I had Port 3&4 setup as VLAN1000 and 5&6 setup as VLAN2000, I connect the modem of provider 1 to Port3 and Port4 to Port 3 on the ER, provider 2 goes into port 5 on the switch and then port 6 goes to port 4 on the Router.

Now, internet works fine etc, but when I pull the modem out of Port 3 to test, it does not failover to provider 2, instead a ping of google,co.uk gives me destination unreachable.

So my point is, works fine when all connected directly to ROUTER, but has this issue when connected to SWITCH first, is there a fix or is ROUTER assuming because it can still see Port 4 connection of the Switch it assumes connection stilkl active?

Thanks

I am thinking this might have something to do with Firewall, so when Provider 1 is pulled from VLAN1000, the Router can still reach the rest of the switch and maybe getting confused, I guess an ACL setup to force VLAN1000 to be only able to communicate itself might work?

Hi @StormFusion

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

First, you should not hold such an opinion in this conversation that we would fix it for you. There is no reason that we offer some kind of workaround for you or for this situation. What you did is not traditional and common. I am aware that you might work around this and make it work, but our intention for the load balancing is not for your expectations as described.

Port 3 and 4 are used as WAN. Two ISPs, A and B.  Then you set up VLAN? Why?

I don't understand this line.

Can you understand what you said by its literal meaning? Draw a diagram at least.

Great. It's super clear now.

So, this might work. Theoretically. Seen this before and some say they use this kind of setup fine.

If the link backup takes over, and you unplug the port 3 cable, your port 4 should take effect. But you don't get Internet after unplugging the cable. Is that true?

Have you tested the second line on port 4? Does this cable from the Switch to the Router work separately?

Or test the Internet from the switch. And you also need to check if your VLAN has been set correctly or not. This can affect the connectivity as well.

  @Clive_A

Hi, first of all thank you for taking time to look at this with me, so if I connect both to router direct it works as expected.

If as I have it setup now I pull out provider 1 it does not fail over to provider 2 it just acts as if there is no connection, however if I connect provider one directly to router and leave provider 2 as I have it currently and pull provider one out of router it does actually switch over to provider 2

My only guess is that because it's going via switch first primary wan is not failing over because it is detecting something?

As far as I am aware the vlans are configured as should be in omada, I'm thinking maybe it's more related to acl

I try and post the settings later, thanks for help

In Controller mode, you check if you have the Echo Server in your settings. (If you don't have it, it might not support changing that.) This is where you change the online detection server. Load balancing should not have any interference with the VLAN.
