Model: ER7212PC
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.3 Build 20230314 Rel.21018

Hi all!

I finished a new install at home with an ER7212PC router/controller.

I have an uplink to my ISP that should deliver me 300 Mbps.

The cablemodem has been bridged to get an WAN-address directly to the ER7212PC but when I do a speedtest I only get about 90 Mbps.

If I directly put a laptop onto the modem I will arrive at 290 Mbps so the ISP is delivering as promised.

Any idea's on how to improve this?  Don't have a clue how to start.

  @Mr.Blue

Actually, the Iperf test shows the ER7212PC has a normal speed, so you'd better check the cables and the settings.

  @Mr.Blue we have some data interpretation issues,, if you iperf to a local server at  192.168.2.30 you are measuring multiple things, none is the internet speed.

you are measuring.

  1. 192.168.100.15 's link speed
  2. 192.168.2.3 link speed
  3. switching capacity of the systems connecting both.

Since I am 100% positive any gigabit switch in between has at least total 12gbps switching capacity, i'd bet money there is an issue with cabling somewhere,. somehow,. please get a decent tester and and run it in all involved points..

  @Mr.Blue

it sounds like you have 100Mbps link on your lan or wan. check the network cable and the speed at which the network port is connected

  @shberge

That was also my first (and only) thought.  But unfortunately all links are 1000 Mbps.

What speed have you on LAN interface?

Link to the ER7212PC directly:

  @Mr.Blue

that was very strange, that device should easily handle 300Mbps, this seems to be a case for tp-link support

it seems like there is something that slowed down the speed somewhere.

  @Mr.Blue That's weird. this device can easily do gigabit.. are you plugged to an USB backed Ethernet adapter? do you have any special wan configuration ? can you share your lan side configuration?

  @crrodriguez

I am using a USB-C ethernet adapter but when I do the test directly after the ISP's modem I'm getting my 300Mbps.  Also tested on a different PC with built-in ethernet adapter or testing with a Pixel 6 Pro using wifi is giving me the same results.

What do you want to know about lan side config?

The only thing I can think of is that the default lan has been put to the 192.168.100.x subnet instead of the default 192.168.0.x. I know there have been problems in the past if I'm not mistaken.

  @Mr.Blue the 192.168.0.0/16 space is "very congested".I strongly suggest you to pick random /24 prefixes from the 172.16.0.0/12. now this should have no effect on the speed of your connection, but there may be whatever kinds of conflicts with the default subnets of some modems or other devices you may plug,never use it.

are you 100% postive the traffic is been routed correctly and you are in the expected vlan ?

is there any bandiwth limiting configured on this network, Qos? in any case this should work.

  @crrodriguez I'll keep your advise in mind for the 172.16.x.x range. But as I am far from a real network engineer I didn't do any configuration that limits any bandwidth so far.  Just created some VLAN's to separate home, guests, IoT and camera's and then some ACL's to keep them apart.
I also did the speedtest from within separate VLAN's.

  @Mr.Blue

Hi, though you said you have the speedtest result is 90M, I always suggest using the Iperf to do the test again.
