ER-605 Port Forwarding Over VPN
Hi,
I have ER-605 Omada Router.
https://www.tp-link.com/products/details/er605.html
I have setup a VPN. I want to use port forwarding through the VPN.
Lets say, the router obtained an IP address 192.168.200.9 and I want to forward port 2300 to an internal IP like 192.168.0.10.
So, I want my packets to be forwarded from 192.168.200.9:2300 to 192.168.0.10:2222
I have tried the port forwarding method on both the router's control page and the omada software controller, neither of them worked.
Is port forwarding through VPN possible?
Thanks,
Cosar.

Hi All,
Allow me to correct some information here. Currently, port forwarding over VPN is not supported. Thank you for your valuable feedback. Regarding @Virgo 's comment, I believe he meant to say that it can work using Policy Routing, but not through port forwarding.

Actually it is a little bit difficult to locate the issue now, may I know if you have the double NAT devices in your network?
What specific VPN are you setting up, L2TP, IPsec?
Is this R605 used as a VPN server?
If you can simply describe the network topology and your VPN settings, it is very helpful.

@Virgo thanks for your reply.
ER-605 router is connected to a OpenVpn server as a client.
The local devices connected to ER-605 router can be in the VPN network this way.
There is no switch connected to the TP-link router, only local PCs over LAN.
TP-Link router is connected to the VPN server as client and I want to forward packets to the routers internal network for specific ports.
The VPN server hosts on 192.168.200.1 and the clients connected to the server will have 192.168.200.2-255.
My ER-605 is connected to the server with IP 192.168.200.9 and it hosts a private network as 192.168.0.2-255
My scenario is forwarding packets through 192.168.200.9:2300 -> 192.168.0.102:2300
I have set up port forwarding to 102 for port 2300 on router but it's not working.
It's not related with the OpenVpn server, I have tried with other brand VPN routers and it worked fine.
How can I make it work on ER-605 router as a VPN client?
Thanks.

then, what is the function that you used on other brands VPN routers?
and what is the p/f config you used?
I think that the packet are re-directed. It is not p/f. More like redirection.

I used regular port forwarding function. In and out ports are the same.

If I understand you correctly, then I'm afraid this router doesn't have the settings you want.
If you go to virtual Servers, you'll see that Interface doesn't have the option to select the tunnel built by openVPN, but if your VPN is L2TP/PPTP, it's visible and optional in interface.

Yes, I've tried with L2TP VPN server and it worked. I could forward packets over a specific port to a local client under router.
As you say, it doesn't seem to work with OpenVpn.
