Model: TL-R600VPN
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I have a Netgear LM1200 LTE modem that can provide failover services. As long as Wired Modem is working the traffic goes through cable modem and LTE modem when cable modem goes offline, LTE takes over. In both cases the LTE modem is in bridge mode meaning the ISP public IP (in my case Comcast or T-Mobile) is provided to R600VPN Wan port. All of my port forwarding rules work without issues. The problem is;

when the LTE modem switches from one ISP to other and assign the new IP to the routers WAN port, router has no idea that the Public  IP has changed. I can force it to get the new IP by disconnect/connect the wan port, but I won't be able to do it if I am remote. Is there a way to make the WAN port notice that there is no traffic and reset the port? I also thought of resetting the router every night, but it seems overkill, for something may happen once in a while.

@Oceanwolf

Can you use R600 as the primary device to perform the failover? I believe R600 is using the physical connection detector to determine if that requires a fresh. Is there a possible way to reboot your modem with a smart plug? To disconnect and reconnect, in this way, R600 will reconnect and get the right IP.

One solution could be using the LM1200 in router mode and get a local IP address to the router’s WAN port. When LM1200 fails overthen the IP at the WAN would not change. I tried that and I got into double NAT problem that I would like to avoid.

I tried using R600 as the failover device but, I like the idea that LTE modem sends me a txt message about its failover. Maybe if I can use a smartplug to powercycle the cable modem, router and LTE modem when the connectivity to internet is lost.
