Model: TL-SG108E
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version:

Hello,

I have problems to build up a reproducable fast Gigabit connection via cascaded TP-Link switches.

Speed tests are done by copying a 1GB file in Windows environment.

Target
Router - TL-SG1024DE  - TL-SG108E - PC1
                                       |- PC2
copy 1GB File PC1->PC2: ~2 MB/sec

Intermediate solution by connecting PC1 and PC2 directly on TL-SG108E works in my opinion fine
Router - TL-SG1024DE  - TL-SG108E - PC1
                                                             |- PC2
copy 1GB File PC1->PC2: ~70 MB/sec

Back to Target by connecting PC2 again to TL-SG1024DE works surprisingly also fine
Router - TL-SG1024DE  - TL-SG108E - PC1
                                       |- PC2
copy 1GB File PC1->PC2 ~70 MB/sec

BUT

TL-SG108E power off/on leads again to slow speeds ~2 MB/sec

I have already tried restarts and factory resets of both switches as well as different cables without success .
Switches show always Gigabit connection and cable test says ok.

Environment:

  • Router: FRITZ!Box 7590, Fritz!OS 07.12, 192.168.1.1
  • TL-SG1024DE: 1.0.1 Build 20180629 Rel.58591, TL-SG1024DE 3.0, 192.168.1.22
  • TL-SG108E: 1.0.0 Build 20180720 Rel.62134, TL-SG108E 4.0, 192.168.1.24
  • PC1: Network Realtek PCIe GBE, Win10, 192.168.1.40, JumboFrames deactivated
  • PC2: Network Realtek PCIe GBE, Win7, 192.168.1.44, JumboFrames deactivated

Thanks for useful hints

Andy

@Ajuba

You can use Iperf to test the speed. If the testing speed is normal, maybe related to the application. You can connect two PC to each other directly. Then set static IP address for them and check if will happen the same problem.

It seems that 20180720 is not the latest firmware for TL-SG108E 4.0. You can try to upgrade the firmware as well.

@Andone

Thank you very much for the quick. The problem is solved.

But first, for my region there is no newer firmware available for download.

I found the solution when I changed on PC1 (which is actually a Notebook with LAN and WLAN) to fixed IP. The notebook started to freeze and finally crashed but during that I recognized that Windows 10 never switched off WLAN while connected to LAN. I never realized this as it never harmed.

So, the simple solution is to manually switch off WLAN when connected to LAN. Then I achieve 100MB/s and more via 2 cascaded switches.

Thanks again.
