KS225 (with matter) - double tap, tap and hold
Is there planned support for douple/tripple tap or tap and hold?
would really appreciate if a scene can be called or something like that.
Thank you

Hey @EpsilonEagle,
Thanks for the feedback!
Our dimming switches had a double tap feature at one point, however this caused the devices to have a noticeable delay between your interaction with the switch and the light turning on while the device waited to see if there would be a second interaction.
Saying that, I know that there has been very recent updates for devices (particularly the KS220M) that allowed for a tap and hold interaction to change how the lights functioned, and it seems that the devices are now more responsive.
I will make sure to forward your feedback to our team and see if there are any plans in the works - but I do not know of any as-is.

Hey @Riley_S ,
Any update on the tap and hold functionality?

thank you

There is a small update I can give, just not for your device yet. There has been a feature added to the base level dimmers which does allow you to have control over the light without motion taking effect when the button is held. This feature is still rolling out and isn't available to many devices yet, but our teams are making headway.
Do you have a specific use case that I can relay to help relay the importance of adding such a feature?

yes, if you use your dimmer switch (as matter device) to control other "scenes" not just the hardwired device, you don't have ability to control the dimmness of other scenes.
What I'm trying to say, your "matter" dim switch only works as a light, and I can only use it as on/off switch and the dim buttons actually not programmable.
so if I use it in some automation (for example if I need to pair it with other lights using automation) I don't have an ability to also dim other lights.
for example if you look at Philips Hue switch, it can do a lot more than TP link one.
lmk if you need more info.

Thank you so much for clarifying, for some reason I had it stuck in my head for the Motion Dimmer, which had a long-hold feature added to disable the Motion Detection. I will make sure that there is an active request mentioning the automation capabilties of the different buttons and to potentially add sync settings for other switches.
As for the syncing of lights and swithes, while we cannot provide any information right now, our teams have been developing a designated solution for this function.

Yes please add this request. I am holding off on buying 58 of your switches for my new home because it lacks any programability. I understand the problems with multiple taps causing delays to execute basic light functions. I would be happy with a long press recognition. I will be using Home Assistant to look for a long press to execute a scene. Your switch may be able do this now but I can not find any documentation or any answers if this is possible. I actualy found a post stating this functionality was removed from the WiFi version of this switch.
Is it possible to find out if your Matter Switches and Dimmers send a predifined singnal length with each button press or is a "switch closed" signal continually sent as long as the button is pressed? Having the ability to determine if there is a long press would not impact/delay any normal funtionality for the average user, the light could change as soon as they touch the switch. The long press would allow a scene to activate after say 2s.
Thanks for your help.

THE DOUBLE TAP AND LONG PRESS were features I used more than anything else and drew me to KASA as my choice for around 50 devices in my home over the last few years. When you stopped doing that and changing it in the firmware, I was NOT happy. My friends were also impressed with this - it was basically a built in Scene feature.
PLEASE BRING THIS BACK - just have warnings for idiots that choose it that they could have occasional response delays when they use it (I never experienced those delays). Customizability is the BIGGEST driver for people to like and enjoy a product. This was a bad move by TP-Link when they removed it.
I have some KS-230s 3-Way that used to have that long press and douple tap feature and I think I got robbed in a firmware update. Make ALL your dimmers have Long Press AND Double Tap features that can select Preset Brightness and/or Gentle for either. Keep fade as a separate voice because that should apply even if they don't use Long / Double options.
So much potential.
TIP: because you have Smart Actions built into your App, consider also allowing those long press/double tap features to be a trigger to the Smart Actions. So if I long press one switch, it might turn on a bunch of other lights or plugs or perhaps just a plug for my light or fan in the corner.
Currently, I use Alexa to turn on various light switches in the garage when I turn on the one at the entrance, and the opposite when I turn it off. Alexa also has the advantage of not having to be just Kasa brand items, but I was partial to Kasa for it's App and features (you dropped the ball I removing it). I've also used Tapo camera motion to turn various lights on.
GET BACK THE CUSTOMIZATION PLEASE.
