New Deco App Feature: Configuration Backup
Hey Everyone,
We are thrilled to announce that a long-awaited and highly requested feature has been added in a recent Deco app update — Configuration Backup.
The Configuration Backup feature allows users to export their current Deco configuration settings of your Deco Mesh System, including basic network settings, advanced feature configurations, and more. Once exported, the configuration and its settings can be conveniently restored or applied to another Deco Mesh system under the same account.
Deco App Configuration Backup: What's Needed?
Before using the Configuration Backup feature, please ensure the following:
- Your Deco app is version 3.8.3 or higher
- Your Deco is configured in Wireless Router Mode
- You are logged in to the Deco App via the Owner Account
NOTE: This feature does not require a firmware update — it is a Deco app feature.
To Find and use the Configuration Backup Feature:
- Open the Deco app and select More → System → Backup
Alternatively, when attempting to Remove the Main Deco from your Network, the Deco App will provide you with an opportunity to Back Up your Configuration:
If you have already backed up your configuration and decided to reset your Deco under the same TP-Link Account, you will now have the option to choose between Create a New Network or Copy Configuration Settings From Another Network:
General Questions about the Deco Configuration Backup Feature
Where Are the Configuration Backup Files Stored?
The backup settings will be saved as local data in the Deco app on your smartphone and securely encrypted in the TP-Link Cloud. Please note that this local data will be deleted if you uninstall the Deco app. For further information, please refer to the TP-Link Privacy Policy.
What if my Deco doesn't Support all of the Advanced Features in the Backup File? For Example, can a Deco X50 use the Backup of a Deco M5?
The backup file can still be used, but it will only restore the configuration settings that are supported by the target Deco.
Deco now has Three Similar Features that Support Keeping the Current Network Configuration: Configuration Backup, Replace Main Deco, and Set Main Deco. Which Option Should I Choose?
- Configuration Backup is recommended if you want to reset the current network and set it again without repeating the whole setup.
- Replace Main Deco is recommended if you plan to upgrade your main Deco node with a newer or more advanced model.
- Set Main Deco allows you to swap a satellite Deco with your main Deco, and is helpful in troubleshooting scenarios.
Many of you have expressed a desire for customizable options within the Configuration Backup feature, including the option to choose what you want to back up and where.
