Frequently disconnects from wifi
Frequently disconnects from wifi

Tapo Smart Door Lock DL110 keeps disconnecting from my network. My router is only 8 feet away from door. All other Tapo devices work fine with the wifi. Any solutions to try?

@SimSimSim Well, I doubt that I fixed it but it did get better. It only drops once a day now. I did a factory reset and setup on the door lock and it's a lot better. Not sure why that would matter but it's tolerable now. I hope you have better luck with yours.

@dszx91969 Thanks for sharing. I am using an Asus router, I turned off the AIProtection function (not advisable), it seems to fix the problem, no wifi disconnection for 5 days now. Not the best solution by turning off the router protection but it seems to be working now.

If that is the case, it was likely something in the firewall blocking the traffic, or intercepting/redirecting a request. You should see if there is a way to bypass the protections for specific devices via a safelist, I know our HomeShield service allows for devices to be excluded from protections (for this reason).
For both of you though, I would recommend trying to make the device a 'known device' by your network - whether that be a simple name or creating an IP reservation.
Lastly, another consideration, if your device is that close to the router, its possible that your network is trying to shift the device's connection to use a different band. If you have a 2.4 only network, or are able to set a priority band for the device - i would do so.

Well I received an email today from tech support. They told me to download new firmware that just released today for the DL110. I did it and knock on wood, no disconnects all day so far. I wll keep watching close and report back in a few days. The name of the update is version 1.023 Build 250218 Rel.111011
Hopefully that's the fix!

@dszx91969 The wifi disconnect is back again after been stable for about 10 days. I have blocked the IP address used by DL110. Not able to get the latest update 1.023 Build 250218 Rel.111011. My current Firmware version is 1.0.15 Build 240821 Rel.092956 and Hardware Version is 1.0. It keep saying I have the latest firmware.
My only solution now is to switch off the wifi button on the DL110 (inside the battery compartment) and switch on again every time I lost wifi connection.
I get this warning message when I turn on auto update "Firmware auto-update is only available while the device is connected to Wi-Fi. Please setup Wi-Fi first". I have the wifi connected but it is still showing this message.
Hopefully Tapo/TP-Link can help to resolve this problem asap as it is becoming frustrating.

@SimSimSim I still am connected. The firmware update was a succes. I think it was a test update that tech support gave me but I emailed them a report that it is working fine for a week now, No issues. Hopefully they will release it publicly soon. You can also contact them directly like I did. I hope you get it, it worked for me. Good luck.

Its possible, they will sometimes give a test firmware if they think they know the cause (which it sounds like you received since you sent information back after applying the firmware), otherwise debug firmware would be used to help them find the cause. They may have a few other users/cases they are testing with. Otherwise we typically see the updates in a timely manner (2-3 Weeks after Finalization), especially if it is being seen by multiple users at once.
@SimSimSim - If the behavior is overwhelming, you can always get in contact with our support teams to see if they will give the test firmware, or may give a clue at when the official fix will be provided instead

@SimSimSim I emailed tech support about how well the update is working and if it will be public soon. He told me they are working on making it public but doesen't know when yet. As for your issue, he said that if he had your MAC ADRESS, he could push update directly to you. So let me know what you want to do? I can forward you his email or I can send it to him if you want? Or just wait for it to go public. Let me know if you want me to help.

@dszx91969 Thank you for all your help. Hope it will be ok if you be able to provide me with the support contact and I will message the MAC address and work directly with the support. You have been a great help, thank you!
