Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.8.0 Build 20241202 Rel. 38518

I just installed the firmware update for the Deco M9 plus and noticed some strange performance issues around streaming Netflix, youtube, MS teams and accessing google chrome.

I have 300mb Fibre internet direct to the house and the ISP is Fibrus.

I oringally thought there may be an issue with the WIFi dropping out. I've carried out a speed test at the modem, on the deco app and also at some of the devices connected on WIFI which seem to be ok.

I've reset the modem.

I've reset the deco units and setup the home network again.

Also come across a news story on the Suns website about similiar performance issues with Sky customers.

On my PC I've tried going through a VPN to access google chrome / youtube and it loads straight away. If I take off the VPN it takes forever to load if at all.

The samsung TV and firestick struggles to load youtube / netflix however my iphone youtube app loads with no problems at all.

I think something strange is happening with google / streaming apps either being throttled by the Deco network or Fibrus, although it only seems to have started after the firmware update.

Has anybody else noticed any similair performance issues or have any suggestions on things to try?

Update:

I’ve tried connecting a laptop to the modem directly using a network cable and access to YouTube / google loads quickly.

When the same laptop is connected to WIFI through the deco mesh network it does not load. This suggests it is not an ISP issue.

On the deco app under ‘protecting your network’ there have been a couple of threats blocked to some random website but not youtube / google.

I do not have any parental control profiles installed since setting up a new home network.

@Liam191 I have the exact same problems in Norway after updating to 1.8.0 on M9 Plus! Netflix, Prime and so on does not load on either Apple TV, WebOS, Phones or iPads. Tried to revert the update back to previous version and that is not possible either! This needs to be fixed ASAP from TP-Link!

  @Liam191

UPDATE: TP-Link has given a way to easily revert to prior firmware.  I just did it...  Hopefully a new updated firmware will be figured out soon, becuase I was really looking fordward to the new dedicated IoT SSID.

M9+ FW v1.8.0 Revert to v1.6.4

------

Seeing horrible performance on Wi-Fi as well after the firmware upgrade.  One thing I now see on my iPhone, in the Wi-Fi settings, is a "Privacy Warning" under my network name.  If you click on that network for further settings, it says "This network is blocking encrypted DNS traffic".

I was super excited that now there is an IoT 3rd network available, but whether I enable that or not, Wi-Fi works terribly.  Certain things work, other things don't seem to.  I cant update apps at all on the Apple Store.

Over on Reddit, people are discussing similar issues.

@Liam191 I have had the exact same issue since the update.

I fiddled around with the settings in Deco after spending days troubleshooting my connected devices.

I found out that the network security options for realtime  protection was the issue. I had the protection against hacker attacks from outside in enabled. 20secs after I disabled the security option everything runs smooth again.

So some stupid false positive on Netflix and webpages that worked fine before the update.
Should get a new update soon I guess, if a lot of peopl have this issue.
