  @Riley_S

Does the C720 support Apple's Homekit Secure Video? I thought I read in earlier announcements that it would, but I don't see that in the specs now.

Thanks.

Hey @in_the_woods,

Not for this one, as far as I know. We are, however, planning to add Apple Secure Video compatibility to a few of our other upcoming products, such as those at CES and you may have been thinking about either our door locks or our doorbells.

Our teams are making progress on creating new models that support the features, but support is currently limited.

  @Riley_S hi, will it be available in both black and white as I have seen both colours in marketing images, but only white seems to be available on your UK store?

I recently purchased and installed the C720. Is it possible to somehow configure the video codec settings on this camera? The Tapo app doesn't seem provide any options for adjusting the camera's video codec other than just simply changing the camera resolution from 2K QHD to 720p. I tried to log into the camera using its local IP address, but no joy.

Reason for my question: I have successfully added the C720 to my Apple Homekit enviornment using Scrypted, but Homekit is fussy about the video codec it will accept. Right now, Scrypted is transcoding the C720 video signal so that it can be consumed and displayed in Apple Home. However, I'm trying to avoid the extra processing that is required for Scrypted to transcode the C720 video signal for Homekit.

Thanks!

Hey @KuroPhoenix,

That is the first image I have seen for a black version. For now, I believe that it is limited to white.

It may be different in the UK, since each region can have different products and models, but for the US, I have only seen the white version.

For more information on non-US products, you would need to visit our global community: https://community.tp-link.com/en

  @MF_Foodeater,

I do not believe that you are able to change the codec specifically. You may, however, consider exploring the RTSP and ONVIF features of the camera if you have not already. The camera's do not have a web interface, however their video streams can be accessed on your network after enabling the camera account feature in the Tapo App.

I have never used Scrypted, but if it is using your TP-Link Account, you may be better off trying to use the local network streams. There are also two different streams available via RTSP, one that is full quality and a sub stream with a lesser quality. I am not sure about the codecs you are aiming for, or if the two streams provide different codecs, but it may be an easier route to explore.

Out of curiosity, what codecs are you looking for, or what does Apple Home Support?

Can this be linked to the tapo hub?  I have the multiple other tapo cameras linked to the hub and would like to do the same with this one

Hey @Roller12345,

Not directly, you would need to look for specifically a Sub-G compatible camera, such as the C420/400. Essentially the Sub-G cameras will communicate with the hub for event detection and automation over Sub-G, while the camera and video feed will still pass through your Wi-Fi to get to the hub for processing and recording.

Is there a specific aspect that you are looking to use the hub for? As a wired camera, it does support RTSP and ONVIF so you could store the video on an NVR or other storage solution instead of Tapo Care, if the onboard storage is the key concern.

  @Riley_S

Many floodlights have an option to keep the light on at a dim setting at night as an ambient light, then go to full brightness when motion is detected. And then drop back down to the lower brightness after the motion event ends. Does the C720 have this ability?

At minimum, I do know that there is an always-on setting but I don't know how it is triggered on/off. Can you set it by sunset/sunrise or does it have to be a fixed time each day?

Is there a difference between C720 and TC55 models? The specs seem to be identical.

According to the Tapo support form, there are already three versions of the C720 camera: v1, v1.6 and v1.8. What are the differences between these?

  @uscpsycho,

The Floodlight Camera does have an option to create a customized schedule for the floodlights, which should follow the brightness setting of the camera. This schedule can operate off of a set time or can use sunrise/senset settings.

69846cd2302f4c00827b4b0dfee0217dUnfortunately, both the automatic detection and floodlight schedule use the same brightness setting and it is not possible to have the brightness increase when activity occurs during the schedule.

I have passed along your feedback already and our teams will look at the request to see if it is something that could be added and would not interfere with other features. Are there any other features that you would like to see on a floodlight camera that I could forward alongside it?

The TC55 and C720 are the same model, but they are sold in different locations. Between the two models, you should see the same features and updates.

Lastly, for the different versions: it is not uncommon for us to have a few versions before a release, especially if the device was seen at CES, or went through our beta program. For this device, we do not have too much info on the previous hardware versions, but due to their versions all being v1.x, I would assume that these are only slight optimizations or improvements made between versions.
