Model: Deco X50 - Outdoor
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

My husband and I just installed a Deco X50 Outdoor modem/router/whatever. It is actually installed inside our home, because we don't have extended cables (we are not very sophisticated when it comes to these issues).

In any event, we are looking for a wireless connection/extender for out outdoor devices. What should we purchase? We need this to be as simple as possible.

Thanks!

Hey @BethC,

You honestly already have one of the best and perhaps only consumer devices that we offer for outdoor use, especially if you are using a Deco system.

You will want to try using Decos over REs or other extenders, as they can join your mesh, connect wirelessly with minimal loss, and follow your other network settings.

Range Extenders need additional configuration and can potentially cause routing issues for some devices.

Your best bet is likely to look at replacing the X50 Outdoor with another Deco and moving the X50-Outdoor to the outside. It can connect to the network wirelessly, so you only need to provide a power source - whether this be with the power adapter or via a PoE connection. This would provide the best experience and also be the easiest to configure.

- For PoE, you could look at a PoE Switch or PoE injector to source the power for a longer or more discreet run of wire if you would like.

FYI - There is a setting in the Deco App allowing you to easily switch main Decos once another is added to the network, so the changeover should be painless
