Model: KS230 KIT
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Looking at the below diagram, it indicates that the LINE on the main dimmer goes to the power source and the LOAD on the Satellite dimmer goes to the light bulb. I've confirmed this works great.

My question is: Can I swap that? As in the Main Dimmer LINE goes to the light bulb and the LOAD on the Satelitte dimmer goes to the power source?

The reason I want that is since where the LOAD for the light bulb is located, is the only side that has the white neutral wire.

On version 1.8 hardware.

  @sethomas Well, both switch boxes are showing neutrals in that diagram, so that's from where my miscomprehension is coming

But if you DO have power available in the Load box (I'm presuming from another switch), then you can do something like this, that I showed in another thread

  @sethomas No, unfortunately that won't work.

So your Traveler Romex is only two conductors (plus ground)? But that would mean that there would be a single 'line' wire in (which doesn't really compute)
If it's three wires (coming from the 'load' box), is it possible that the load box has BOTH line AND load in it?

  @DEcosse thanks for the response!

Up the stairs are 3 cords, the 2 travelers and power. Then downstairs is the light bulb line, the 2 travelers, a white netural, and also a power line. If I hook the light bulb line directly to power, poof it turns on.

Would it be possible it hook up the LOAD and LINE into the main 3 way? Then the sattilitte just has the travelers? I doubt it.

For now I put a single non-3 way kasa switch and have the upstairs switch disconnected and covered. Then I got an aqara mini switch, and with IFTTT, if the mini switch is triggered it toggles the kasa light.

  @sethomas It's hard to follow from your description alone - can you possibly add some images of the actually switch boxes with the switches all pulled out, so can see the wiring? And maybe if you could do a quick schematic of the wiring - even if you just manually draw it on paper and take a photo with your phone?

  @DEcosse I really appriciate your help and trying to understand my very basic level of knowledge with wiring.

be1c3eef8d06467294ed7e4266577eae

The above matches what I beleive my wiring is when I had dumb-switches, with the exception of the box/switch on the left does NOT have a neutral wire or ground.

The box/switch on the left represents my upstairs switch.

The box/switch on the right represents my downstairs switch, that also does have access to a power source too.

I was hopeful that the kasa satellite could be the box/switch on the left (requiring no neutral), and the kasa main be on the right, but the kasa diagram states the kasa main must be power and the satellite must be the light bulb line.

For now I just disconnected the box/switch on the left. Then on the right, I added a single dimmer kasa switch, hooked that up to power, and removed the 3 way functionality, added an aqara mini switch upstairs to control the single switch downstairs via IFTTT. It seems very extra but it works.

  @sethomas You're welcome!

You certianly didn't waste any time in reconfiguration and testing!      laugh
