Smart Switches Disconnecting
I've had TP-Link smart switches and plugs for the last 5 years and never had an issue. I recently updated the firmware on my router (Asus GT-AX11000) and updated my iPhone's IOS to 15 and nothing but problems. Switches and plugs w/ Hardware V1 connect and disconnect constantly throughout the day. I've done factory reset on all switches and even on my router and still same issue. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I have the same issue. The TP-Link smart dimmers are disconnecting every minute or so.
Router mode: Asus GT-AX11000
Router firmware: Merlin: 386.4
Not a mesh system.
- Does the issue start since any router firmware update: no
- Model & hardware version of kasa device HS220 (12 of them) HW = 1.0. FW = 1.5.11
- Mac address of the problematic kasa devices (please share MAC by private message)
- Does it happen on certain kasa unit or all kasa devices: The smart dimmers HS200 only so far.
- Is there any Red/ Green/Flashing Green WiFi led on plug when issue happens? One of the dimmer HS220 switches the wifi light was solid red some days ago. Restarted it and no more red. Two others occassionally flash green wifi light.
- How often does kasa become local only or not respond All the time.
- How did you make kasa work again at that moment, like reboot kasa/ reboot router/ factory reset kasa and set up kasa on the app? Rebooted cable modem, rebooted cable router, Makes no difference. Disconnect and reconnect about every minute.
- For Asus , try to check Router Log when issue occurs and the router log if possible
Log sample by PM.
Let me know if you need anything more.
Thank you

Hi Everybody, I have the same problem with my week old ASUS RT-AX88U
For about 4 years everything was working rock solid with my Fritz!Box 7490 and my TP-Link switches HS110 hardware v1 and v2 (8 switches)
Probably because both router and switches are quite old already.
A week ago I bought an Asus router RT-AX88U to use it as router with the same fritz modem as bridge.
Since the begining my some of my TP-link switches disconnected each minute or so making my Home Assistant installation very unreliable.
As said in a post above, the workaround that worked for me is setting the router in legacy mode. But my wifi 2.4ghz speed go down to 10mbps, so its painful.
In the logs I notice that the power save flag is not set when in legacy mode.
Second workaround that works with latest firmware and makes less frequent disconnections, each 2 hours or so: (Got them from forums and from the asus website)
1. Go to [Wireless] > [General] page. Turn off [Enable Smart Connect] and select the [Band] for your network devices.
2. Disable [802.11ax / WiFi 6 mode]
3. Disable [Wi-Fi Agile Multiband]
4. Disable [Target Wake Time]
5. Disable [Protected Management Frames]
6. Beacon Interval: 1000
(noticed in the logs that power save flag is set) maybe that is causing the issue?
- Router Model: ASUS RT-AX88U
Router Firmware: Tested so far (with same results):
ASUS 3.0.0.4.386 45934
ASUS 3.0.0.4.386 45898
Merlin 386.4_0
Is it a Mesh system e.g. router + extenders? Just router
- Does the issue start since any router firmware update? Since I got it
- Model & hardware version of kasa device .e.g : HS110 hardware v1 and v2
- Mac address of the problematic kasa devices (please share MAC by private message) will be sent in PM
- Does it happen on certain kasa unit or all kasa devices: Some, not all
- Is there any Red/ Green/Flashing Green WiFi led on plug when issue happens? I saw once orange flashing, other times I think they stayed green
- How often does kasa become local only or not respond: with default router settings, each minute or less. With tweaked settings shared above, each 2 hours or so
- How did you make kasa work again at that moment, like reboot kasa/ reboot router/ factory reset kasa and set up kasa on the app? nothing, it reconects again by itself
- For Asus , try to check Router Log when issue occurs and the router log if possible. will be sent in PM
Thank you

Latest firmware on Asus website for AX88u is Version 3.0.0.4.386.45934 . TP-Link bulbs (LB110, KL120, HS105) with hardware rev 1 running firmware 1.8.11 disconnect every 1-2 minutes with new firmware. New bulbs (KL130) with hardware rev 3 and firmware rev 1.0.10 have not disconnected in over 34 hours.
I do not think 802.11as wifi6 mode, agile multiband, or protected frame management has anything to do with the issue. All my old bulbs did not ever disconnect with them enabled using Asus firmware 3.0.0.4.386.42819 and new bulbs have been online over 34 hours with new asus firmware 3.0.0.4.386.45934 . To verify, I disabled them and it mde no difference with no firmware.
Based on my findings, problem seems to point to the one think I found in common... old hardware rev 1 devices using firmware 1.8.11. E.G. It is most probable that firmware rev 1.8.11 needs to be updated. My bet is this has something to do with old bulb hardware / firmware and the fact ASUS closed several WPA vulnerabilities:
- CVE-2021-30004
- CVE-2021-27803
- CVE-2019-11555
- CVE-2019-9499
- CVE-2019-9498
- CVE-2019-9497
- CVE-2019-9496
- CVE-2019-9495
- CVE-2019-9494
- CVE-2017-13086
- CVE-2017-13084
- CVE-2017-13082
- CVE-2016-4476
- CVE-2015-8041
None of my other numerous smart devices have had any problems with new Asus firmware; Zero disconnects for them. Also, oddly enough, my two old HS200's with hardware rev 1 running firmware 1.2.6 have had zero problems.

See my reply to @Anduvo . I do not think ASUS firmware is at fault. The only common denominator for me is old TP-LINK bulbs. New TP-LINK bulbs work fine. Looks like TP-LINK needs to come out with a firmware update.

You may be right, but for what it is worth, in addition to my TP-Link HS220 disconnects, I have two Honeywell WiFi thermostats that are disconnecting every 4-5 minutes on the new Merlin firmware 386.4 installed Sunday, January 9.
Their connections were stable before I flashed the new Asus firmware.
And, also FWIW, there are a lot of "reconditioned / refurbished" HS220 dimmers for sale on Amazon and ebay.

Update... I just installed 4 more KL130's and none have dropped offline. Will monitor to see if they stay online 36+ hours like the first. The newer devices are better in many ways but it would be good if I could get more mileage out of my older devices which were expensive when I bought them. A $30 light bulb in 2014/2015 should last more than 7-8 years. It was not fun spending another $56+ on bulbs to fix wifi issues.

Update for RT-AX3000
Asus released firmware 3.0.0.4.386.47029 on Jan 10, 2022.
So far no Auth. error in router log, all HS105 (v1, FW 1.5.6) switches respond (to Alexa) immediately, and no LOCAL ONLY in Kasa app.
I would say this version fixed my problem.

We are --- since Sunday when we installed the new Merlin 386.4 firmware on our GT-AX11000. Same symptoms with TP-Link smart dimmers -- but no with GTP-Link plugs and power strips or other vendors' gear.
Has something to do with the 2.4 GHz WiFi inmlementation apparently on the TP-Link apparatus. No disconnects on 5 GHz gear, but none of the TL-Link smart devices operate on that frequency.
