@Eric_F , many companies, even large ones, will offer beta software and hardware to an interested community.     TP-Link is a pretty large company, but I have a hunch that their home automation team is relatively small. This sort of beta program helps everyone to get the products working better faster.  If you don't want to chance it, then sit back and relax and let the rest of us be your guinea pigs     No need to hassle TP-Link. You've got a lot of other smart switch options out there that are far more mature.

@Eric_F@jyg  The beta has gone through the preliminary test but not a perfect one, it could contain some unexpected minor problems. Thank you for your feedback on the' Python' error on macOS, @DBKAsa and could not find device in Upgrade tool, I will check with our team first. We will update on this thread if there is new beta or anything new. Thank you your time and patience~

Hello@mmcd75 Kasa app will show the hardware version (APP Device page->tap right top' gear' icon-> Device settings ),otherwise we will need to check on the sticker on the back of switch, which is not so necessary as that requires to pull switch out and APP shows the hardware version. Currently, the delay feedback we got are on HS220 V2, if you have the same concern on V1, can you help provide more details, I created a support email for you, please check your inbox later, thank you.

@Solla-topee  Running Windows 10. Here's a screenshot of the console after it fails to upgrade a HS220 v2.

@DBKAsa

The update worked for me flawlessly on windows! The response time is much faster now. For anyone having issues, I would recommend to update to the latest firmware through the app first and then try running the beta upgrade again. Thank you tp-link for the update.

@Solla-topee

I have a v3 version with the same annoying delay...I've disable long press and double tap, still slow to turn on

Any beta firmware for v3?

I don't think this issue will ever be resolved, especially for my v1 HS220 dimmer switches, so I bought an Amazon Basics 3-way Smart Dimmer Switch to try. It is not quite instant on, but pretty close. Much faster than the Kasa dimmer switch. One negative for some people may be that it only works in the Alexa universe. Visually, it looks fine next to a Kasa HS200 switch.

re: beta software Sure, I completely understand that. However, why not make the beta firmware opt-in via the Kasa app? Giving end users the same tools that developers are using to create the firmware is asking for a lot of trouble and support debt.

@DBKAsa

I finally got the update to work on OSX Mojave. Last time, it showed no devices. This time, it listed them all. The only thing I did differently was to physically disconnect the ethernet cable from the computer and then connect to wifi (before, I had disabled the ethernet port in system preferences). Update showed "success" and light is faster now. Thanks, TP-Link, hope this gets out to regular firmware update via phone soon for people who can't do it via computer.
