Great help, I managed to get it to 2.6 by stepping through each update. Still struggling with 2.8. I'll give it another shot tomorrow and make sure I have all the files and versions straight in my head.

I found a pib for v2 that may work with your device:

@turboleak OpenWRT support on WPA8630P V2 is super exciting, since I expect it would resolve a lot of the shortcomings with the AP functionality.
I'm in the UK - I think the UK version is the same as EU version, except for the UK socket on the passthrough.
There is activity relating to this model (V2) on the OpenWRT forums in the last few days so hopefully something will be forthcoming.

I just went ahead and created a folder with all the .pib files and firmware files in existence for TPLINK QCA75XX devices, as well as recovery tools and a neat tool to dump the .pib of a device.
This .pib dump tool will allow anyone to create a .pib directly from the device instead of waiting for TPLINK to provide one.
Instructions are also present on the folder.

I updated the dropbox folder with firmware and pib's for the QCA4720 devices ( 500/600mbps devices ).
There is a very recent 1.5 firmware that provides excelent performance.

Great apprecaite your help. I bricked my 8630 yesterday going from 2.6 to 2.7 but managed to unbrick it today. Probably picked the wrong files when I updated. Will try again with your latest postings.

I've searched online and I've found versions 2.6.0 and 2.7.0 on the UK tplink site, but there's no trace of 2.8.0 anywhere.
If it's coming out from 'other vendors', can you share mode details on which model/version it has been taken from?
Thanks.

are these files you found for U.K. version only or also U.S. version available?

I've used the nvm from file "TL-PA8033P KIT(UK)_V3_200329.zip" (https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/download/tl-pa8033p-kit/#Firmware) and the pib from "TL-PA8030P KIT(EU)_V3_200117.zip" (https://www.tp-link.com/uk/support/download/tl-pa8030p-kit/#Firmware).
The tool now shows a 2.7.0-44 version and so far it's much more stable than the 2.2.x I had before.
Ciao.
