Strange behavior with Synoris Garage Door Opener
There are reports in the area of theives using scanner/scrambler hardware to open garage doors in the middle of the night. I thought that a Smart Plug would be the ideal situation. Turn off the power to the opener at bed time and then restore it in the morning.
Indeed the HS103 does exactly that but there is a weirdness with opener functionality. When the garage door is closed when power to the opener is restored it will open the door but not close it. When the door is open when the power is open it will not close the door.
I tried a number of things but finally discovered that when the door opener is connected with the Smart Plug the sensors that detect door motion blink which means a safety issue to the opener. All I have to do is block the light path between the sensors for a second or two which will cause the sensors to connect, the lights turn solid and the opener works as expected.
So when the door is closed and is powered on the door will open as expected. Back a car out of the garage and the wheels will block the path causing the sensors to connect. If the door is open when the power turns on (rare) I need to put my hand or foot in the sensor path.
So this all works but it seems weird to me - does the HS103 restore power to the outlet differently than say a standard light switch?
