Connect Switch to red/white wires problem

Smart switch wires = 2 black, 1 white and 1 green. Existing wires in wall = 1 red and 1 white. Connecting white to white and red to blacks (together or separately) doesn’t work. Switch won’t operate manually or get WiFi signal. Anyone have a solution for connecting these so it’ll work?

You would need three wires in the outlet that you are installing the switch in. If you only have two wires, then the install will not work.
