I have a C8 and my usb drive has been for connected to the C8 for several years without any issues. I use both a Windows 10 laptop and Apple OS machines to connect and share data.

The 2.4 tends to have better distance and stronger signal whereas the 5 has faster speeds. I suspect your device is going for the one with the strongest signal. This may help....
