I'm wondering how this might be. I have a Motorola surfboard router. I have this configured specifically to run on 2.4ghz band.
However, looking at available wi-fi connections I have a _5G connection as well as my normal connection.
From the tp-link management status page it shows the router as having 5g turned off, but from the tp-link extender it's enabled.
I'm having no problems using the connection on my devises (in fact they're having problems when using 5G), but my wife's tablet won't run properly unless it's connected to the 5G flavor.

Is this a normal function of the extender?
