Phenomenon Description:

Recently, our teams have received user feedback regarding the Deco M9 Plus Firmware Version 1.8.0 Build 20241202.

Users have reported that certain devices are unable to access services such as Netflix, YouTube, Microsoft Teams, and various Google applications, while other devices function properly on the same Wi-Fi network.

Possible Solutions:

The underlying cause requires further verification at this time. We will keep the community informed of any updates or improvements.

In the meantime, if your Deco M9 Plus is exhibiting these characteristics after updating, our engineers have provided a beta firmware that allows downgrading from version 1.8.0 to the official version 1.6.4 without requiring a factory reset, ensuring that your original network configuration remains intact:

Deco M9 Plus_V2/V2.2 Deco M9_Plus_20250124_Beta Firmware

Update Instructions:

  1. Please Install the Beta Firmware Manually via the Web UI.
  2. Then, update to the official 1.6.4 firmware release

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Our engineering team is actively working to identify the cause and we will provide an update when one becomes available.

@Ryan Thanks for making this downgrade available. Since upgrade (Deco M9 Plus), the system has become very unstable, issues observed.

1) Microsoft Teams, Google Meet etc: Calls drop within 1 minutes, call starts and then sound stops and then Teams call drops.

2) Various sites unreachable (various sites like sometimes Yahoo is unreachable. then eBay, and now Amazon.com is not reachable)

3) Slower DL speeds

4) Not able to download pictures send in iMessage (just the picture icon appears but it doesn't download), the moment you switch over to Cellular, you can download the photos.

5) When using WiFi calling, call just stuck in calling phase, never completes.

So lot of problems since yesterday when I have upgraded. Restarted Modem, Decos, all clients multiple times but issue persists. For now I will be downgrading but if you need to collect any logs let me know and will be happy to assist.

@Ryan Thanks for fixing this. Went through and did the beta to get back online. The minute my M9s booted back up the tv and messages started working again no problem. My primary issue was YoutubeTV and YouTube not working, but did see occasional issues on desktop when connected to wifi. Never issues with wired that went through my switch, so was pretty quick to assume router issue, not ISP.

Pretty unfortunate and I now turned off my auto-update. I like to get the latest security updates, but now will wait a week or two before doing it.

Thanks very much for the quick workaround and allowing a downgrade ability.

Update : After downgrading the Firmware, not reachable sites are reachable now, Speeds are back to what I am subscribed for (300Mbps), after the upgrade (1.8), they were reaching 100Mb max. Hopefully Teams works now as well.

  @Ryan

I am really dissapointed fo this update (1.8.0), because it seems it bricked my device. My main deco had died during the weekend, while two others remain operational (flashing red). I tried to use pen to reset my main deco, but no use. My (ex)main deco just don't start, no lights, and is cold.

Surely there is no quarantee valid anymore, and I have no reason to believe that device dying isn't related to this firmware upgrade. Does TP-link cover this any way (I think they should), but if not - what is the device suggested to be bought instead. These M9 plus seems not be be available that much anymore, or they are very expensive if buying just one.

Edit: And when I reset manually using pen remaining two decos, I did "update" to 1.6.4 (that beta I assume), but I am not able update anymore, because device model cannot be selected from web interface.
