Model: Deco X75
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.11

Who within TP-LINK had a bright moment and decided to only allow configuration on a mobile app???

I'm trying to get support from VPN people and they wanted to help remotely - but they DO NOT REMOTELY connect to a mobile.

So that's that support gone down the drain.

Can we PLEASE get back to allowing the DECO units to be configured through a browser  !!!!!!

All we get is information and firmware upgrade - thats it, no configuration possible.

Are they trying to be ahead of everyone or can they please explain why this move was made???

What is the purpose behind this??

And why have they not told other support, like NordVPN etc...... that it is not possible to remotely help via the browser.

  @geertje

I can't 'speak' for your Deco, but my BE65 can do it via a browser, although not the full functionality of my iPhone Deco app.

All youi need do is is enter into the Browser the IP address of your Deco, in my case, http://192.168.68.1. You should see this in the browser:

c9a48eae5ac04b57b8c8d854d655ca15

Enter yout TP-Link ID (same as used on the mobile Deco app), and then you should see this:

xx

In my case, I still needed to use the Deco App for the USB connected drive. Also some of the wireless settings like Channel to be used for instance.

The Advanced option has some stuff, like Updating F/W, Reboot, and see the log... but overall, about all you can do on the main page is change the SSID's P/W's, nothing else, can't even enable the Guest Network or its options. Overall, very limited and more for viewing than setting options.

I assume though you know how to do this as you've said " All we get is information and firmware upgrade ", and I agree.

Another 'way around this' might be connecting your Phone to your PC? Then if Support were to connect to your PC and see the desktop, they could control your Deco App possibly?

I've used iPhone's Screen Sharing that worked well, and there is Windows Air Screen Monitoring Receiver that worked well. Also Intel's Unison. If nothing else, you phone screen would show on the desktop and then if the support people connected to your Desktop and could see the phone Deco app, even if they could not operate it, they could tell you what to change?

However, I too agree with you, the Browser needs FULL control.

  @IrvSp So the actual question is: What is the reason for having only VIEWING of the network on the NEW TP-LINK devices???

Why???

Is has always been with any device to be able to access this via the browser and change ANY of the setting in that.

Of course there are ways around it and getting access to the mobile, but when I was on the phone to PureVPN, they just made the excuse NOT to connect to a mobile.
End of support, brilliant.

Thsi still leaves the question for TP-LINK - What is the reason for your decision to do this???

I'm completely flumuxed...........

And I don't even think that they will spend any effort into my question, simply because they probably have got no answer to this.

Its some manager that thought this one up, got promotion for it and now it cannot be reversed anymore as he is no longer in charge of the department.

Thats how it usually works in these organisations, and we customer are just the last thing they think about.

Am I being cynical?? Hahahaaa

  @geertje,

I hear you...

I was also annoyed that one actually NEEDS a phone (that has a compatible TP-Link app) even INSTALL/SETUP a new router/Deco.

No recourse if you have a phone, but it isn't a smart phone or tablet (flip type).

I assume the main reason would be Router memory to store the HTML in? Money saving feature or just 'we want it that way'?
